Show Mount Timpanogos Temple Special Edition A From - Page 13 memory that will last longer than a lifetime the journal of Nicole - April 26, 1996 I just came home from making a memory that will last far Bennett beyond my lifetime. My sister, had the my mother and of the hanging opportunity crystals on the chandelier in the Bride's Room in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple. On Wednesday, April 24, 1996, my mom went to help hang crystals in the Celestial Room and the Sealing Rooms. When she came home that afternoon, she said what a great experience it was and then broke the news that my sister and I could go with her the next morning. On Thursday at 9 a.m. we arrived at the Temple. Many of the volunteers were already there helping in the Celestial Room, and the room that was left happened to be the Bride's Room. The three of us, along with one other sister, were assigned that room. 1 First we started on the sconces. In each box were p papers that had instructions, explaining exactly what to do. We split into two teams and after studying the instructions, we began. We spent about four hours finishing all 10 of the sconces with very minor problems. After returning from lunch, it was time to start the chandelier. At this time, the wife of the chief electrician came to help us. The first thing we did was to unpack the boxes and line them along the walls. As we unpacked, we realized that we had not yet found any instructions. By the time we had finished, they were still nowhere to be seen. Finally, we decided to ask around and we found out that the cleaning crew had accidentally thrown the instructions out with the trash. We were left with boxes and boxes of more than 1 ,500 crys step-by-ste- The temple in me a field - on highland - as they say was the appointed site for yet another dot one of many to form an earthly motif but a decade earlier, in search of a mortal abode while meandering the roads near the field my mind heard a tiny, timeless thought - a temple it settled in my heart becoming a quiet treasure could it be? when? in the field? but where? The wait was long by mortal measure - eventually the babble, the talk - and finally the truth - a temple through the field it would rise and take shape perhaps my fine china, my gold, my jewels could be sacrificed for the glistening walls - a temple presently, a gentle musing, found rest on my mind then became a piercing dagger to my heart the temple in the field comprises only righteousness a compelling command to examine the temple in me -- -- -- must become the temple in surrendering the unfit, unclean, untrue part of me the temple in me will supply my necessary sacrifice to adorn God's temple in the field - a temple the blueprints, the elements, the purpose, the order the temple i create in me must fit the one being raised my razing such godless habits as anger, pleasure, pride an exacting plan is revealed - a temple digging, forging, framing, hammering tempering, designing, shaping, purifying nowhere inside that consummate dwelling would there be a room, a closet, or even a corner for smudged or worldly offerings - then neither in me a temple - i -- -- the temple the site, the stone, the spire, the sod combine in splendor to glorify God the temple in me progresses anew while the one in the field awaits in full view Sharon Z. Everything started to fit perfectly. It seemed that in no time at all it was completed. It was beautiful! Standing back and looking at it, I, (and am sure everyone in the room) had no doubt that the Lord was right there helping us. know that the five of us could not have done that I I ourselves. The Lord wants His House to be built. Nothing can stop it. As for me, I have had an experience that I will NEVER forget. Someday, when I have the opportunity to be married, it will be in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. And someday when I have daughters of my own, will tell them how their grandmother, my sister, and I were guided in putting that chandelier together. And then after I die, mv nd child ren can grea look up at that chandelier and have this story to tell. Family has many reason to be thankful for temple By L. SCOn Erin, ROUDABUSH and family Alex and Sydney Our family has many aisons to be thankful for the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. We were happy to hear that the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in the area attended the Provo Temple often enough to warrant the building of another temple so close to us. First, it meant less time on the road; it was 30 minutes drive to the nearest temple. Second, it meant less time our children would be with a sitter. Both a rather minute sacrifice for us in Utah compared to our friends and family in other states. For me, the new temple is another sign that American Fork citizens of all faiths and religious backgrounds have a commitment to basic moral values. I am proud to live in a city where people are welcome to move here and share in the lifestyle of American Fork. The Community Presbyterian Church, LDS churches and churches of other denominations serve as landmarks, showing the moral commitment of the people in individual neighborhoods. The temple will serve as landmark. such another Regardless of a person's religious background, most of us share the same basic moral values. Having the temple in American Fork demonstrates 1 train age 7 Art by Alex Roudabush, the city's commitment to these values. For my wife, the announcement of the chosen site was a thrill. Having worked at the Utah State Developmental Center for the past nine years, she was able to watch the construction daily as the beautiful building took shape and form. She truly believes that the people living at the Developmental Center are spirits of God who are on this earth for no trial of their own. Having a House of God across the street from where his chosen people live, somehow symbolizes the united love between these people and God. We asked our children what the Mt. Timpanogos Temple means to them. Our son simply stated, "It is good. I can't wait to go there someday." Our daughter said, "We have to be good, so we can get married there." She then instructed us to get our "white clothes on" so we could go there. To our family the temple means peace, love and salvation. It means that most people still believe in good. We share, with hopefully all of our neighbors, the privilege of having the Mt. Timpanogos Temple in our beautiful city of American Fork. seven-year-o- four-year-o- ld ld |
