His position and scoring from the center is improving each contest. He scored 10 points and had four rebounds. His comment: "The first half we playedokay, a little clumsy at times but okay. However we came to play ball in the second half and the whole team came together and we that just killed em. I really believe if we continue to play ball like we did tonight we will win the region. This team is really coming together." In the first half there was evident ofsome real hustle. Mike Gray, Rubin Redh air and Curtis Jacobsen steals made back to which all resulted in points. Park City then tried a semi full court press but the Pioneers just ran by By ROD MANTOR Lehi's Pioneers had a stellar region openingas they defeated Union last week and went on to bury the Park City miners when they scored 97 points. LIIS vs. Union Jason Allan pumped in 28 points and center Lance Magnusson hauled down 13 rebounds as Lehi This was the beat Union region opener for the Pioneers whon have played it close most of the games. In addition to Magnusson and Allan, Brock Jones came off the bench to ignite the defense and grab a arm load of rebounds. The score couldhave been closed if it had not been for a tenacious defense and the full court press that just shut Union down. LIIS vs. Park City This game started off a little radical with a few players sprawling on the floor, but Lehi settled things down and before long Park City found themselves in a virtual cave in as Lehi racked up the highest point total this season 97. Lehi played a very precision game, patience and looking for the open man. The Pioneers took the 68-4- 7. back-to-bac- non-regio- n - li ' 1 Miners' 35 passes to team member, while Cindy Johnson and Katye Gillman go "oops!" JV helps beat Miners With three athletes out of the Varsity Team, the Lady Pioneers relied heavily on the Junior Varsity team members to carry the basketball game against the Park City Miners, The Junior Varsity had already crushed the opposing JV, 78-- The Pioneer sophomores also stomped the visiting team, Senior Nicole Miller played a great game with five steals and two blocked shots, she also had two turnovers and six rebounds. She ran over the Miners who only had five steals by the team throughout 39-2- 8. 8. 53-1- the whole game. Another talented player for the varsity game was Hillary Gerber, a JV sophomore, who had 3 steals, 3 turnovers, 3 rebounds. Cyd Revill ran the court aggressively. "She's ahustler, a good shooter," said Coach Kevin Pedersen, "sometimes she forgets that she can shoot and passes." Revill had six turnovers, one blocked shot, three steals, two assists At the onset of the game the Miners matched point for point with Afthe first quarter ending at ter the Lady Pioneers' typical rough start, they lept forward to end the With a half at lead, the varsity players were rested and a complete Pioneer JV team played their second game against the Miners. Wideningthegapbyfour points, the fourth quarter began at Exhausted, the JV was replaced in the first few minutes of the 4th after Park City had gained by three. The Lady Pioneers were handicapped by three starters down. Starter Lindsey Clark was out with a fractured wrist and two others were ill. -- k SVt k On defense the big guys underneath were just intimidating, as the Miners could not penetrate that barrier. Coach Wilson and his staff have the Lehi defense collapsing so well it is like a block wall out there. The end of one had Lehi by seven. Jason Allan opened the second quarter with a steal and a solo trip to point land; not a slam dunk, but just as effective. Rubin Redhair then made another steal ( one of seven for the night) and he went to the net. His evening total, 11 points. Casey Vanderhoff made a steal and an assist ( one of three ) on a clean pass.
