Fork "Always walk away if you can." Hardly fighting wordsfor amar-tia- l arts student, but nevertheless ones that serve as the motto for a martial arts master. Piboon "Pi" Soumphol, a professional fighter from Thailand and at a new dojo (academy) in American Fork, has developed his philosophy through his many years of study and practice of several types of martial arts. He currently promotes the Muay Thai style of kickboxing, which is combined with moves from Brigham Young University with emphasis in financial and estate planning. Upon graduation, Mr. Ingersoll accepted a position with First Financial Corporation (FFQ, a regional investment and financial planning firm with headquarters in Houston, Texas. It was with FFC that Jeff gained valuable experience in the design and asset management concerns of pensions, retirement plans and consulting with large net worth clients. While in Texas, Jeff earned the Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) professional designation and is a member of the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants. Upon Returning to Utah, Jeff became n affiliated with a employee benefits consulting firm in the area coordinatretireing qualified as well as ment plan benefits for clientele. Eight years ago, Mr. Ingersoll started J. C. Ingersoll Financial Services Company to better serve his clients' interests. J. C. A student since he was five years old, Pi has developed his own style of fighting, and teaches "what works," not just what works for him. S. And, unlike other styles of martial arts, he personally tests his students to determine their progress. With Mitch Moiling Dave Murphy, the and trio welcomes students five years old and up, with an "agile" 52 year old man as their oldest student. "It's amazing what kids are willing to learn to defend themselves," said Moiling. They believe that young people gain and not lose by studying martial arts. Having worked for the Drug Enforcement Agency, Pi also believes that the martial arts are beneficial for another reason. "If you carry a knife or a gun, it can be taken away from you and used against you," he warned. Murphy, an Alpine native who has been studyingmartial arts since he was 13, said that "by far, Pi's method was the most effective" of all methods he had studied. Lr ' "K 0 I . "Some guys come in and think they're tough," he added, "and they find out how easy it is to be hurt." Women and families are finding out the benefits of studying the methods. The dojo offers a women's class on Fridays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., where participants mayjoin at any time. I define financial planning as the evaluation of a person's or business' current financial status, the identification of their financial goals, and the design and implementation of a program that will best allow them to meet those goals. This plan can be simple comprising of one or two pages, or, a sophisticated computerized document capable of analyzing the most complex situations. This assessment phase is followed by a strategic, carefully controlled and monitored implementation phase that continues throughout the wealth accumulationpayout years and, ultimately, estate disbursement." He studied business at Brigham Young University and has studied martial arts, particularly kempo and taekwondo, since he was 10 years old. He is a member of ASD AMD National Trade, and his is an international importer and exporter. "Martial arts is abalanceofbody, spirit, knowledge and power," he said.
