Richards, 91, died Monday, May 30, 1994 at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1902 in Pleasant Grove to James and Harriet Smith Richards. He married Gwen Mathews April 10, 1930 in Evanston, Wyo. Their marriage was later solem nized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Fred graduated from Pleasant Gro ve H igh School and BYU, where, known as "Frosty," he excelled at y basketball and the run. He coached basketball at Wasatch, Fillmore and Delta High Schools and was principal at Scipio Elementary. Fred lived most of his life in American Fork, where he coached basketball and taught biology at American Fork High School and taught physical education, math and health at American Fork Jun- Elizabeth 'Beth' Shelley He was a faithful member of the LDS Church, having served most recently as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. Fred's greatest joy was his family. He spent his life in tender service to his wife and children. He loved all sports and was an avid golfer. He loved the outdoors and always kept a beautiful yard. Survivors includehis wife, Gwen, of American Fork; six children: Carol Nicholes, Ogden; Fred (Beverly) Richards, American Fork; John (Gayle) Richards, Salt Lake City; Steve (Carol) Richards, Bluffdale; Rosemary (Brent) Lind, Alpine; and Anne (Larry) Bowen, Pleasant Grove. He has 26 grandchildren and 20 cross-countr- ior High School. Ruth S. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, at 11 a.m. in the American Fork 6th Ward Chapel, 320 N. 100 East. Friends may call at Anderson and Sons Mortuary Thursday evening from 6 to 8 and at the church Friday morning from 9:45 to 10:45. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Banks Ruth Irene Smith Banks, 78, died Tuesday, May 24, 1994 of causes incident to age at East Lake Care Center in Provo. She was bom Jan. 29, 1916 in Salt Lake City to Elias Marion and Mary Ellen Farrer Smith. She attended Provo city schools and was a graduate of BYU. She married Wallace Banks in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Dec. 23, 1936. She was a lifelong resident of Lehi following her marriage. She is survived by her son, Anthony, Salt Lake City; two daugh- ters: Carmen (Mrs. Bennie) Martinez, and Ellen Banks of American Fork; 10 grandchildren; six n. Family services were held at the Lehi City Cemetery under the direction of Wing Mortuary. Elizabeth Marie Saunders Shelley, 76, a devoted mother and grandmother and long time resi dent of Lehi, passed away May 27, 1994, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was born June 20, 1917 in Ogden to Simon " f and Martha Saunders. She married Stanford Joseph Shelley, June 26, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was active in church and community. She was involved the Scouting program for 28 years and earned the Silver Beaver award. Beth also served as a Blazer leader and Sunday School teacher for the American Fork Training school. She was on the board and a guide at the Hutchings Museum. She was a librarian for the Lehi Family History Library. Beth was also a foster mother to over 50 children. She is survived by her husband of 47 years; son and daughters, Donald E. and Pat Shelley; Mrs. George (Clara) McNeill and Mrs. Donald (Anita) Miller, all of Sandy; eight grandchildren; four sisters andonebrother, Electa Wadsworth, Blackfoot, Idaho; Lettie Harker, Shelley, Idaho; Ruth Yates, Vernon, Utah ; MeDora Webster, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Donald Saunders, Brigham City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, threebrothers and agrand-son- . She is a special spirit filled with life and love for everyone - always ready to serve and share the many talents that she had. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who loved people and enjoyed life to the fullest. She is truly a special Child of God who will be greatly missed.
