Over the last few years, iolite has quietly gained popularity in such items as rainbow jewelry because it is modestly priced compared to other blue gems. Now it is apfopearing as both accents and current in jewelry cal points styles. Its name comes from the Greek word for violet. One of the interesting iolite is its strucabout things ture, which acts the way a polaroid filter does on a camera. The Vikings discovered this and used iolite to see clearly through haze. This structure also causes it to give off different tones at different angles. Proper cutting is essential for showing off the gem's best colors. Iolite is well suited for settings such as earrings, pins and pendants where it will avoid daily wear and tear. It is a beautiful and affordable gem worth a second glance.
