Pioneer Bent By ANNIE PINKHAM Pioneers win in double overtime By ROD MANTOR Last week the Pioneers showed the opponents that they have come to play. At LHS gym the Pioneers invited Pleasant Grove to take the floor and what a game. Was this game exciting? Was Custer out numbered at the Big Horn? It was fantastic! It came down to a two point victory in double over time, Was this game close? The lead changed hands at least a dozen times. At the end of quarter one LHS 17PG20.Secondquarter LHS 28 PG 27. Third quarter LHS 48 PG 44. Tied at the end of regulation. Tied at the end of first over time, 75-7- 3. (obviously). Credit both teams, this was as good a high school game as you will ever see. Both teams were determined they were not going to con cede. Each team seemed at one time or another to be in control, when the other just came scratch- ing back . Toward the end of the game, it seemed as though coach Wilsonhad Lane Andrus and his clone in at the same time. It was a three point here, a blocked shot there, four pressure free throws in a row at this end, another steal at the other end. It was a tremendous effort. Oh yes, he lead the scoring with 23 including four from the three point mark. Terry Radick scored 17, Brian Dibb scored 12 and Jason Allan scored 11. Coach Chad Wilson said, "I want to acknowledge the efforts from Brian Dibbs and Jason Allan who just get better each game. Also Jeff Rushton who came off the bench and gave us a lift in scoring and rebounding when we needed it the most. As for this game, we'll take the win." Alittle credit should go to Coach Wilson and his staff as they just knew what buttons to push. This will be one of those games that elderly men of leisure will reminisce to their grand children. "Yep, it was the winter of '93... terrible blizzard I recall, hardly could get to the gym. ..third of fourth over time... Lane Andrus made a clean block from behind. ..flicked the ball over to Wy att Cutler who m ade a bounce pass across court to Brian Dibb who went to the base line drawing two defenders passed the ball out clear with some reverse english to Terry Radick who passed behind his back to breaking Jason Allan who went around his man and scored a inside reverse lay up with the left hand.... it was fantastic." Yes it was. 8:30 to 5:00 & Fri. 8:30 to 1 AO Scout earns Eagle award By ANNIE PINKHAM The Lehi cheerleaders work very hard every day . They get up early in the morning and go to cheerleading practice. The cheerleaders really help our school by promoting school spirit and "pep," so to speak. Being a Lane Andrus pulls down one of his 10 rebounds per game. Mon.-Thur- s. cheerleader can wear a person out, especially, because they have to be excited and stay excited and full of school spirit all of the time. But, they just keep on going and going and going, and they don't give up. Cheerleadingcomes with responsibility. They can't miss very many practices, and they can miss even fewer games and tournaments. They prepare for cheerleading camps and competitions. That in itself is a lot of pressure. But, what about their purpose at the athletic events? With athletic events comes a crowd, with the crowd comes opinions, views, judgements, loyalties and often energy just waiting to be unleashed. The cheerleaders are there to funnel this energy away from the negative into a positive aspect of support to their favorite teams. Those spectators who do not become involved with cheers are often found hissing, booing, criticizing and h arassing the officials and other teams. This behavior is not the example of support we want to show our teams. A lot of times, the student body tend to take, the cheerleaders for granted. They really do work hard. Cheerleading costs about $800 each year the cheerleader participates. That kind of money can add up to be pretty expensive! So the next time you see a cheerleader practicing, or attend an athletic event and they ask for your support, please, think twice before criticizing them.
