Gary Rogers not only spent eight years as a mechanic, he devoted 17 years with the Sun Electric organization training other mechanics on diagnosing cars with computers. When Sun was bought out by Tools, the new group of- fered him a chance to take on a jobbing route for their products. The only problem was an investment that made him think twice. Using his knowledge gained by experience, he has opened Rogers Automotive and offers mechanical services, including alignment, computer diagnosis, complete brake service, emissions and safety inspection, and work on shocks, struts and clutches. In addition to the repair work available, Rogers Automotive is a e parts outlet for the mechanic. Assisting Rogers with that department is Dave Kunz, in the area for his construction work. Since the opening of the business, Gary has hired a mechanic, Mike Russon, whobrings six years experience as a manager of Express Lube. Along the lines of everyday events we all have opportunities. For example, lots of people bounce checks from time to time, almost always unintentionally (check kiting is still illegal). Here's one I use personally. When you write out a check to someone, record it as you would ordinarily in your checkbook register with the following adjustment. Let's say the check is for $24.16. Show an amount of $24.16 in parenthesis in the column beneath the name of the party you wrote it to. In the righthand column where you record the deductiondebit, write out an even amount to the next highest dollar . In this case twenty five dollars. Why? For most folks a misplaced digit or math error will bring grief when you do attempt to reconcile any accounting error. Secondly, anerrorofthiskind is the one most responsible for causing bounced checks close to a payday. Perhaps the best reasoning for this type of accounting is that the roundoff to even dollars makes the accounting easier. It may also prove to be instrumental in avoiding an impending bounced check charge. The main benefit here is that you are now padding your personal checking account against math errors by building a false bottom to your account.
