Many employees brought their magazines and aluminum from home to add to that collected in the hospital, she said. But Scandinavian scientists have not been content to merely collect data; they have put their findings to practical use. One innovative step has been the introduction of government funded "back schools" for workers with back injuries. Patients attend the school three times a week and receive therapy as well as instruction in maintaining back health. Recently, researchers released the results of study comparing people who had attended the "back schools" with those who had not. Needless to say, the "educated" patients fared far better than their less fortunate peers. One finding from the study emphasized that spinal manipulation or "adjustment" hastened the healing process and reduced work days lost. This confirms the results of a number of American investigations which show that injured workers receiving chiropractic care recover more than twice as quickly as do patients treated with regular medical procedures. ; d "mm ., - state-of-the-a- rt Utah Valley Regional Medical Center staff turns recyclinginto environmentally-beneficiatree planting project. Over 200 employees were also on hand to form a giant human replica of the recycling logo for a photograph. Ms. Mitani said employees worked with the Provo City Parks Department to determine where to plant the trees. They plan to continue with the recycling project and plant trees in additional parks in the future.
