Show Free Press Wednesday, September 25, 1991 - Page 8 "Joseph" was a jubilant and joyous celebration By BETTY FOWLER Lehi Arts Council should be patting itself on its proverbial back after savoring the latest of its scin- erally had fun as they put themselves through the rigorous paces of the production. Jay Packard as Joseph, with Troy Sutton playing the role in two performances, were flawless. Jay's voice, stage demeanor and overall expertise are awesome. This kid has a future! I'm sorry I didn't see Troy perform , but Fve been assured that he was wonderful too. As were other members of the cast, Jacob by Chris Holmes, Dan Lindsay's Rueben, Cam Cahoon's Simeon, and Trent Sutton's Levi. Troy and Jay alternated in the role of Napthali, and Shawn Cloward as Isaachar was super. Others deserving accolades were Jack Pinette, J.D. Ramsey, Brad S. Williams, Jeff Krommenhoek, Dallas Krommenhoek, Wyatt Darling and Travis J. Sutton. In assessing actors and actresses for awards, we cannot leave out Mindy Berry as Mrs. Potiphar and Slave Girl Robynn Reed. They were Tony winners for sure. Gin a Cox deserves a hearty thanks for her choreography, and the costume design by AngelaFidel was nothing less than inspired -especially the amazing, technicolor dreamcoat. Lighting and sound by Jason Bullock and Doug Bezzant, were impressively done. All of this added up to a wonderful overall job done by the artistic tillating offerings. "Joseph" had it all. Not just Joseph, the lead character in Lehi Children's Theater's latest production, but the entire cast. The show o was a bowing, masterpiece. "Joseph and the Amazing Techfinger-kissin- mag-nific- nicolor Dreamooat" should have been the dedicatory program for the new Lehi Junior High because it lit up the place, and the faces of those in the audience. Lit up? As in fireworks? You bet. From the opening curtain, until the finale it was a firecracker. The orchestra Jared Crapo on keyboard and piano, and Liza Bar-raon drums, with tuxedoed Diane Daly on the podium - took maximum advantage of this showmanship opportunity. The uptempo beat of the wonderful Tim Lloyd Webber score was perfect to capture the interest of even the most blase teenager who acted out the biblical quality of the story. Daly's inspired musical direction made the most of the children's talents and her own desire for excellence. The uninhibited performances of cast members made mockery of teen bashers' theory that today's young folks are bored and boring. They kicked up their heels, moved to the mood of the music, and gen tt Rice-Andre- w -- director, Kathleen Reed. For readers' information, any production which features anything by Kathleen Reed will be fabulous. That is a given.
