Pressing is best for articles that are hemmed, such as tablecloths or runners, because blocking could damage the edge of the fabric. Blocking gives better results on fabric embroidery. To press your embroidered piece, use a d surface, steam iron (or regular iron), and a damp cloth. Embroidery should only be pressed lightly so that the stitching will not be flattened into the fabric. Place the embroidered piece face down on the padded surface and press from the center outward. For embroidery that is raised from the surface of the background, use extra thick, soft padding, such as a thick blanket. Be sure that after pressing, threads are not visible from the front. After blocking or pressing, an embroidered picture should be mounted right away to prevent creasing.
