New directors bring experience to group The members of the board of directors of the newly organized Utah Regional Ballet bring a wide variety of experience and talent to their positions. William D. Thompson, president of the board, is an oil and gas exploration consultant. He serves as a liaison between financial investors and the oil industry. A petroleum geologist by training, he received a Master of Science from the degree in Geology University of Utah in 1971. His work has involved living and working in many oil centers in the United States. He and his family spent several years on assignment in the Far East in Singapore and Indonesia. During the past five years, Mr. Thompson served as chief frontier geologist for Inca Oil and Gas headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas and later as vice president of Crossroads Oil Company in Salt Lake City. He is presently of the board will be JoAnn K. Brown who served as a member of the Lehi City Council for 12 years. She was directly responsible for a majority of the departments within city government including: recreation, buildings and senior grounds, public safety, citizens, Lehi City Youth Council, city parks, cemetery and others. Mrs. Brown was appointed by Governor Scott M. Matheson to serve as a member of the Utah Air This Committee. Conservation involved working appointment closely with US Steel's Geneva Works and Kennecott officials. As president of the Utah League of Cities and Towns, she is the first woman to hold that position in it's 76 year history. She also represented the State of Utah as a member of the Human Resources Committee and the Resolutions Committee for the National League of Cities, i She was member of the Utah Industrial Development Valley Association (UVIDA) and United Way. Mrs. Brown was instrumental in the development of Help, Inc., an agency of United Way. Mrs. Brown was named one of the top five outstanding citizens in Utah County and was administrative assistant to Utah's Lt. Governor Clyde Miller. She is the wife of Leo 'Jim' Brown, and the mother of three children. Larry Baum, a Lehi resident, will serve as promotional director of Utah Regional Ballet. He is a 1959 graduate of Lehi High School and after serving an LDS mission to New Zealand he obtained his BA degree from Brigham Young University. Baum sold national television time for Peters, Griffin, Woodward in Los Angeles, representing over 100 television stations nationally. He was regional sales manager for NPAC, a subsidiary of Texas Refinery Corp. where he received a top sales award. For the past 13 years Larry has been with KTVX (Channel 4). During this time he has been local sales manager and national sales manager. Larry has worked with every major advertising agency in the Vice-preside- United States. He recently resigned his position with KTVX to accept a position as vice president of sales with the Utah Jazz basketball team. He is presently responsible for all sales from season tickets to media time, a project Larry says will make the Utah Jazz one of the top NBA clubs in the United States. Bill Kirkpatrick, a native of American Fork and present resident of Alpine, brings both artistic training and experience to the newly formed ballet company. He began painting at an early age and continued this interest, leading him to a bachelor's degree from BYU. He was instrumental in the creation of the Utah Pageant of the Arts and served as its for more than a decade. At present he makes his living as a portrait artist. Cindy Sumsion is a charter member of Utah Youth Ballet. She brings many years of ballet to her study and experience of Utah a member as positions Regional Ballet's Board of Advisors. She is an enthusiastic advocate and supporter in perpetuating the art of ballet. To recognize and talents is a develop one's motivating force in her life. Cindy has traveled abroad and as a Young Ambassador from BYU, toured India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, where she performed solo ballet as well as the regular repertoire with the company. While at BYU she engaged particularly in theater and cinematic arts, her love for the performing arts is heightened by her affinity for the ballet. Cindy has taught for Stacy Swaner of Ballet West and is presently teaching for Jackie Colledge, Utah Regional Ballet Company. Mrs. Sumsion currently resides in Salt Lake City with her husband, Michael, who is studying medicine at the University of Utah. She is the mother of twin sons and a baby daughter. Sarah Price will be costume mistress for the new ballet company. Mrs. Price was costume mistress for Ballet West, has done costumes for San Francisco and New York City Ballets, as well as the Utah Youth Ballet productions. Valerie Kelson, a resident of Midway, has been named a member of Utah Regional Ballet Company's Advisory Board. An enthusiastic, educationally-- , of mother oriented six, Mrs. Kelson has been PTA president at Wasatch High School in Heber City. She initiated a children's radio program in Wasatch County and was instrumental in establishing the Girl Scout program there. A past publicity coordinator for the Boy Scouts organization she was elected to serve as a school board member. Governor Scott Matheson appointed her to the state school board representing Region Nine. Mrs. Kelson was selected as a member of several advisory boards God-give- n extrawith children's curricular activities in the state and local school systems. She is dedicated to insuring quality education in the state; and encouraging the protecting arts; supporting teachers and educators to provide a better educational system. Jim and Valerie Kelson live on a horse ranch in Midway with their five sons and one daughter. dealing Council okays tires for Lehi Streets Dept City council members okayed the purchase of tires for trucks operated by the city's Streets Department, but not before the purchase was put out for bids. They also approved a suggestion to get the bids by telephone because the tires are needed before cold weather arrives. Mayor Tripp instructed Councilman Dale Ashton to gel the lowest of three bids and then to go ahead and purchase the tires. In other council business, Councilman Kent Shepherd asked the city to approve the necessary funds to Lehi Amfinance a bulance crew to attend a prehospital care conference being held in Salt Lake City. Ambulance crew members will receive instruction to maintain certification for ambulance technicians. Technician Jackie Madsen was present to explain that ambulance crew members are required to complete a certain number of hours training in order to maintain their certification. She said that members attend seminars and clinics en their own and at their own expense in order to certify, and that they also conduct CPR classes and other training sessions. Madsen stated that she had to have 91 hours of study and service to keep her certification and the conference would help provide the necessary hours. Chris Lind and Kent Shepherd commended the the ambulance association for their dedication and service to the community. They also stated that theirs was a volunteer service and it was much appreciated. The council approved Councilman Shepherd's request for funds to finance the seminar. Pageant BOOsts new spook alley Two men arrested for burglary Lehi Police have arrested Jay Lynn Barney, and a male, in connection with the Sept. 23 burglary of the Edna Haycock residence. Lehi police officers are working in with Uintah County conjunction Sheriff's Office of Evanston, Wyo., apprehended both suspects at a ranch home just outside of Evanston. Both men have been extradited with the juvenile being placed in juvenile detention and Barney in Utah County Jail. They are facing burglary and theft charges.
