The Progressive party will hold its gathering in the city council room at the Civic Center and Democrats plan their session at the American Legion Hall in the basement of the Memorial Building. The only way to get candidates on the ballot in Lehi this year is by the convention process. Those who perfer not to associate themselves with the Progressive or Democratic parties may organize a party an hold a nominating convention of their own. However, names of candidates must be filed with the city recorder no later than 5:30 p.m. on September 27. Anyone may seek office who is Sterling Merrell, DeVere Fowler and Kent Shepherd. Garry Sampson will be nominated as a candidate for mayor. He has held the mayor's post since 1981. Sampson had served two council term years of a four-yea- r when he was appointed to serve as mayor. A.E. Ellison had been elected to the mayor's position in the last election but resigned after serving seven months. Johnny Barnes was appointed to the council seat vacated by Sampson. Names to be submitted for nomination for mayor on the Democratic ticket will be: J.B. Cooper, M. David Kunz and Dale E. Ashton. Announcing intentions to seek council nominations are George Tripp, Carla Heiniger and Neil Whimpey. TWO STUDENTS Balloon message finds its way to Lovers Lane Mary Songer who lives on Lovers Lane in Gatesville, Texas, found a balloon in her yard, responded to the note attached, and Lehi school children know that someone nice lives deep in the heart of Texas. Over 500 balloons, just like the one Mary found, were released into the sky be students at the Ijehi Elementary School last week. A note attached to each balloon explained that the child whose name was on the note had parents who were members of the PTA and asked the people who found the balloon to return it or contact the school. Less than 24 hours after the balloons were released, a lady from Pueblo, Colorado called the school and excitedly explained that she had found one of the balloons. This week a letter from Texan Mary Songer was received at the school stating that she, too, had .. found a balloon, a little over 24 hours after the children let the balloons soar into the sky. Becky Jubeck's name was on the balloon. Who knows where the next balloon will be found, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon or Alaska, but PTA officers hope that anyone finding a green balloon will contact the school so that the friendship force begun with their imaginative membership drive will continue for weeks to come. Sally Saunders, Mrs. Sharon Hatch, members of the Utah County Medical Association Auxiliary, engrave baby seats to be rented out by the hospital beginning next week. CAR Most of the flood money is going to projects that are already under construction to enable irrigation companies to handle next year's water storage and distribution needs. The big recipient of the funds is the DMAD Reservoir Company in Millard It received County. $750,000 to pay for constructing a new spillway on the DMAD dam, replacing the dam embankment and other repairs. Legislature. Legislators appropriated the funds to aid flood damaged private and mutual irrigation companies and water user organizations. Half of the projects using the funds are in Millard of Sanpete Counties. The Fort Cedar Irrigation Company is the only organization in Utah County to receive the flood aid funds, and the $15,000 amount is one of the lowest amounts authorized. Infant car seats are now available for rent at the American Fork Hospital, officials said Monday. The seats, designed for infants up to 20 lbs., may be leased for a period up to six months when it is to be returned to the hospital for use by someone else. A total of 50 car seats have been purchased through a cooperative Fork effort of the American Hospital and the Utah County Medical Auxiliary, it was noted. Representatives of the medical auxiliary were on hand this week to engrave the seats and prepare them for rental beginning today. Mrs. Sally Saunders and Mrs. Sharon Hatch of the auxiliary noted auxiliary members donated $700 and the hospital $500 for purchase of the units. An additional $200, donated by E dyn Fannin through sales of McNess Co. vanilla and barbecue sauce, was used to purchase the locking clips for the units. to rent one of the , Anyone wishing units should call the hospital, extension 328, to get their name on the - list for the seats, said Creta Blackburn, hospital administrative assistant. The units may be rented for $20, including a $10 security deposit. The deposit is refundable when the seat is returned if it is turned in in good condition, Mrs. Blackburn said. In the event the seat is not returned, the individual renting it will be billed for the entire retail cost of the seat, plus other charges. Money raised from the rentals will be used to purchase additional seats, officials said. Those renting the seats are required to watch a film on car seat safety, and to learn how to place the seat in the car and the correct method of placing the infant in the seat. Mrs. Hatch said the seats will be rented each Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the hospital board room. A member of the Medical Auxiliary and of the hospital Volunteer Auxiliary will be on hand at that time to administer the program. |
