Fur flew for awhile but when the lights were dimmed and the last of the old fans filed out of the Marriott Center, the Pioneers had themselves another gold trophy to add to the ones already in the Lehi Trophy case. The opening tipoff went to Lehi but when the Pioneers missed the shot Wasatch came right back with the first score of the game. Liston hit for Lehi, Barnes scored on a jumper but the Wasps came right back with two quick baskets. Nattress, swished a beauty and with 4:46 to go in the first quarter the scoreboard read 6 tie. Ford was accurate from the corner, then Chewy scored again on a nice rebound basket. The Wasps hit for two, Ford went in for a layup, but Wasatch nested a couple from the lane. Berry hit a nice one but again the Wasps zeroed one in. Lehi had a narrow two point lead at the end of the first quarter Lehi was playing their third quarter tricks again. They found themselves with a six point lead 9 with 4:01 in the third. Just when they thought they had it made, Wasatch came back with a bucket, but Barnes scored from the corner, Wasatch hit from the key, Burningham sunk one and Lehi called timeout. When the game resumed, the Wasps stung Lehi for two quick buckets. The score now read Lehi end of third quarter, phewwww. Wasatch scored after the timeout, Barnes sunk one, Jeff went to the line, hit two and Lehi had a lead. Barnes scored again, Wasatch scored two more, Nattress stood at the line and hit both ends of a one and one. Wasatch evened the score when they hit two from the charity stripe, figuratively speaking, of course. Lehi still had a 5 advantage with 3:02 left. Again Nattress, showing all the confidence in the world, hit both from the line, Liston sunk one but Craig Smith hit two from the line Wasatch hit a foul try and a layup to start Lehi's scoring when the and with 1 : 11 to go it was Lehi Ben Ford went to the line and second quarter began.
