Again the hitting power of Tingeys dominated the game as they easily won 10-5- . Later in the afternoon they faced the Colorado State Champs, The Jetway Flyers. The pitching of Jetways hurier proved too much for Tingeys and they were only able to muster two runs on a two-ru- n homer. This tournament marked the end of the softball season for Tingeys. The tourney may also mark the conclusion of Tingeys softball dynasty as several players have decided to play for another y team next year. It will be difficult for any team to match Tingeys record as they have captured every major class A championship in the State of Utah. Tingey 's is (he only team within the state to win over 2(10 games over the past four years along with over 40 tournament and league trophies which can be seen at the Tingey Turf and Road Gravel office. Next season three of Tingey's players have decided to return to "Feck Builders" after a four year absence. They are Dave Hatch, Gil White and Lin wood Carter who helped Peck's win the League championship during the 1978 season. They will be joined by Cal Houghton and Donny Hadfield giving Peck's a revised look for the 1983 season. "Pecks", is currently playing in the Labor Day Classic in Salt Lake with White, Hatch, Houghton, Hadfield, and Carter in uniform for the Lumbermen. Softball is a game where age doesn't seem to matter and many of stars are in the "over-forty- " club." They are seemingly intrepid. Some of them may lose their hair but they don't lose their love for softball ' nor their game. Many fans who stll pursue their favorite team at the American Fork and Lehi Parks are over 70 years of age, and just as crochety, vociferous and vocal as when they were teenagers. They may be arthritic, wheeze and freeze but they are still young at heart. bring They comfortable chairs, folding umbrellas, lunches and plenty of words of encouragement for the players and descriptions of ' the umpires, but when softball loses " one of them to father time they have to be over 1 00 years of age and locked in their rooms. well-chose- n co-cit- y co-cit- (teen u Little League Conference Underway If last Saturday's Little League Football competition is an indication of what the season's outcome will be, count on the Pleasant Grove Eagles to be formidable opponents throughout ' the season. He exemplified all that is good in the sports world. Heber and his lovely wife, Iona,. were present at most ball games. He sat back, quietly enjoying each game. His. presence was felt by players and spectators alike even though he was never too vocal. He followed each softball game even though his sons played on dif-1 ' llerent teams. He was proud when "his" teams performed well and could recite statistics almost as accurately as his sons. ;;' ; That empty chair will be missed by all because as an avid fan he always played fair. He was objective, giving credit to those who deserved it, and was never critical when mistakes were made. His legacy to Lehi sports will live on through the lives of his sons. Each of them emulate their father's teachings: Sportsmanship and fair play were always more, important to Heber Hadueld than winning or losing the game, in life or in the ball park.
