The boards were controlled by Fackrell and Ford, the powerfull front line. The championship game was, in many fans opinion, one of the best basketball games played anywhere. The scoring was fast and furious as the team from Pleasant View Ward in Provo swapped baskets with the Lehi boys during most of the first quarter. The tall hoopsters from Pleasant View pulled ahead as Lehi missed on some conversions and maintained a four to six point lead throughout most of the game. h Fackrell was benched with four fouls early in the second quarter. The Lehi crew compensated by hustle and determination but at one point in the contest an official called a technical foul on the Lehi bench. The noise came not from the bench but from the fans behind the players. Pleasant View converted the two foul pitches and one technical foul and had possession out of bounds. They made a quick layup and Lehi found themselves down by nine. This could have been the impetus the Lehi team needed to start the adrenaline flowing because instead of discouraging Lehi the call seemed to give them more desire to win. After a timeout, Coach Brad Sunderland told the boys to just, "play your guts out," and that they did. Pleasant View missed another opportunity tascore and Burningham hit a 30 foot bomb from the side and Lehi was five ahead. Pleasant View came back within two with four seconds to go. Lehi had the ball, Burningham was fouled, missed his shot but on a baseball pass to a Pleasant View player the desperation shot was missed and Lehi won the game 1 W 99' |
