Show l?r-- err vC Z , r u,ni V . i I - - I .v - - Fast Pitch Invitational Soon Pleasant Grove City Recreation Department will host the 1981 Class "B" Men's Fast Pitch State Tournament beginning August 10 and continuing throughout the week with championship play scheduled for Saturday, August 15. Thirty teams will participate in the tournament including the local teams of Playboys, Reggie's, Wil's Family, Taylor Rental, Lamoreaux Concrete and Southam-Warburto-n Aluminum from Pleasant Grove, with Stingers, Jack and Jill, Taylor and Driggs and Bullets from the League. Games will be played each evening beginning at 5:30, 7, 8:30 and 10 p.m. A small admission fee will be charged each evening. The top eight teams will qualify for the Western Regionals which will be held in Salt Lake City the following "V The Salt Lake Gulls will be sponsoring a Celebrity Look Alike Contest during the Aug. 22 game with Albuquerque. The contestants will be judged in six categories (these may be natural or make up look alikes). The following categories have been selected: Dolly Parton, Billy Martin, Miss Piggy, Burt Reynolds, Diana Ross, John Beluchi (or the Blues ILLEGAL PITC- H- The umpire TL7 at the Shannon Field Complex which is near the rodeo grounds. The public is called an "illegal pitch" on this play, sending home Val Tingey of Tingeys. with Wasatch Bank third baseman, Guy Blain ready for action. Tingeys won M SU 1T Coaching third is Ben Woolsey the "A" division of the PG Invitational Tourney. k Tingey's Takes Long Road to First Tingeys of Lehi and Lamoraux Concrete of Pleasant Grove did it the hard way but came out as champs in the A & B divisions of the annual P.G. Invitation Fastpitch Softball Tourney Friday. In the "A" flight, Wasatch Bank started the final night's play undefeated, but great pitching from Tingey's Butch Dunn and Marlin Barnes plus Woody Carter's powerful bat brought the Lehi team the championship trophy. Carter had a pair of towering home runs the final night to lead the attack and was named Most Valuable Player for his fine play. Dunn pitched the final game with Tingeys winning 4 at 1:15 a.m. For his efforts, Dunn was named the Outstanding A Pitcher. It took Lamoraux Concrete about the same amount of time to come through the losers bracket and upset Gene Brown Insurance. Finishing two minutes ahead of the A game, a tired Lamoraux squad took a 4 final game victory. Lynn Walker, Lamoraux catcher, was honored as the B Most Valuable Player with his battery mate, Verlyn Shumway, chosen the outstanding pitcher. The annual week-lon- g affair was highlight by great play and two unusual contests Friday. Doug Hoopes arranged to have Grant Ferre, PG police officer, bring the "radar gun" and all pitchers and pitchers-to-b- e were invited to test their speed against the device. When the "smoke" cleared, LeRoy Maughn of Lamoraux was tops with a five pitch average of 71 miles per hour. Second spot went to Stinger pitcher, Neil Chadwick, at 69 mph. 7-- 6-- express and much, much more. The dates are August 7 and 8 at the Pleasant Grove arena. Time is 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a parade first a 6 p.m. It is free to the public so everyone be sure and come. District 10 is holding their annual show in Pleasant Grove. Seven clubs will compete in several horse events. There will be team barrels, team poles, water race, trailer race, potato race, key hole, calf roping, wild cow milking, pony weekend. be played Brothers).
