According to Dan Doty of Mountain Fuel's construction department, the gasoline running from 100 North on Center Street and across Main Street, was one of the original gas lines in Lehi. Doty reports the line has had leaks over the past several years which have been repaired. However, because of excessive corrosion over the past 40 years, it was decided that replacement rather than continued repairs would be more efficient and less expensive. The leaky line was detected during lines and uses very sensitive equipment to detect any traces of natural gas in the air. Fugal Construction worker Gene Snell says the replacement procedure is normal. Snell feels the new line, which is made of plastic, should last longer and be more efficient. The repaying of trenches on Center and Main Streets should be completed this week. No further replacements are scheduled at this time for downtown Lehi, but more can be expected next summer.
