Show BUSY TIMES - JUNE 1992 - s LETTERS A Dream Come True Hi. During the summer of 1978, while We know that by some we have been criticized for the deer fence we put up and for the amount of garden we raise instead of “going back to nature." But gardens and orchards are not dirty visiting my brother in Wyoming, I had my first trip to Grand County. I absolutely fell in love with it. At that time, with no real income and two small children, I took in sewing and alterations and sold Tupperware to fund further trips to Southeastern Utah. Nine trips later, at the urging of my husband words to us. We need to raise a garden. Not only do we enjoy it, but we need to Jim, our daughter and I bought Lot #348 in Castle Valley. see one side, but I can’t believe that those who have gone back to nature subsist on cedar berries, dandelion greens, and other native plants. Last month, Jim and I drove out from Ohio to see ”our land.” Of course, like the land everyone has, ours is BEAUTIFUL. It is like a dream come true. We not only shot several rolls of film to show everyone in Ohio, we even rented a video camera in Grand Junction to bring Castle Valley back to our television. Our lovely daughter Caryn, now 16 years old, would rather spend her vacation “out west” than lying on the beach in Florida as all of her friends do. She and I plan to be back out in August. For the first time, she will be old enough to help me with the driving be as self-sufficient as possible. Most of our diet is vegetables. Last winter nearly everything we ate came from our garden. We ate the last squash the third week in May. There are always two sides to a question, and maybe I only 200 men, the men should be eliminated first. Another word we think is special is family. We feel sorry for those who had such sad or inadequate childhoods that they do not believe in families. We moved here to be close to children and grandchildren. We enjoy their help, support, and love. We have good neighbors. We appreciate and are grateful for them, but they can never compare with family. We find watching our grandchildren, worrying about their problems, and enjoying their successes much more satisfying and fulfilling Someone is raising food for them. We do love nature and think this is probably as beautiful as any place on than worrying about whether our neighbors dumped their trash, ran over some rabbit brush, or have an outside john. One more thing—one of the Eanh. Our family has camped and hiked on the LaSals and in the surrounding area for over 25 years, and blessings of Castle Valley has been that people could come here and build a before that on the Colorado side. Yet you will not find our names or initials on quaking aspens, and we have always they could in the meantime. We nearly bought the property the LDS Church is left our camps cleaner than we found them. The beauty and wild life of nature must be taken care of by man. But by the same token, God created man (or if you believe you are the stick at a time and get along as best now on, but after reading the (FDA) covenants we felt they were too restrictive. But the covenants haven’t been enforced. Neither have the state and county requirements. Most of the places out here do not comply. When (1,630 miles). Jim and I are thinking about result of a happy accident of nature) with a higher intelligence than the worrying about the “mansions” being built here, we need to remember that building on our lot when it comes time to retire. In the meantime, it is very nice just to know it is there, and to see animals. With that higher intelligence they are probably the ones who do comes the need not only to take sensible responsibility for the world around us, but also to make some worthwhile contributions to mankind comply with the restrictions. Be careful lest you open up a can of worms that the video we took. As Caryn has been my usual travel companion, our trip last month was a real treat. Jim had never gotten to see the Mountain Loop Road, Warner Lake, or Oowah Lake. As we have our own business, he usually vacations with our son so someone is left in Columbus with our business. We were delighted to get a copy of Future Times and would appreciate even it it’s only taking care of and providing for ourselves. There does can’t be closed again and causes probably the majority of the population a lot of grief and expense. Well—so much for my “input." ——Gwen Martineau need to be a balance. I cannot agree with the statement the president of Ed. : We appreciate your letters. Please keep writing. Green Peace made in US. News & World Reports that if there was a choice between 200 earthwonns and future issues. Although we read “Castle Valley Notes" in the Times Independent, it just isn’t enough news about Castle Valley for us. I am enclosing a year’s worth of envelopes and would really appreciate future issues. We appreciate your willingness to send them to us. —-Lou Gostlin P.S.
