Each year as the quoted amount was somewhere in sight, the estimated cost was elevated to a higher amount. The fund originated " The year 1979 was a year to be remembered because air conditioning was finally installed in the museum. As more and more priceless and irreplaceable mineral specimens deteriorated due to the excessive high dry temperature within the building, it was determined by the board of directors, the installation could not be delayed any longer or the mineral section would be totally destroyed. The project has been a long and wearisome one, drawn out over many year of trying to ac from the humble beginnings of young, then eight year old Bret Hutchings, who saved his allowance and purchased a small radio from his parents at Hutchs'. He then printed tickets and went door to door selling chances, with the radio wrapped in plastic under his arm to show the people the product. The radio was given away to the lucky ticket holder at the museum -- or-ten banquet which used to be held each fall as a fund raising project. The earned money went to the Lehi Bank and an air conditioning fund was opened. Each year for some years Bret continued to do a similar project until the account totaled near $400. Anyone who would like to donate a Christmas remembrance to the museum to help defray the cost of the final installment payment would be a true friend to the museum. Speaking of Christmas, may we encourage all of you to come see the Christmas tree standing in the museum foyer. This tree, a cedar, is the kind we all used in years past when we went out to the lake hills and cut our own. It is decorated with strung cranberries and home popped popcorn. The old metal clip candle holders were used by the Hutchings family from the turn of the century, until they went out of vogue after the depression.
