Show Letters to the Editor Open Letter At the Republican nominating convention held on September 25, it was the opinion of those present that local city elections should be set up on a nonpartisan basis, without being under the stigma of national politics. Where-a- s all citizens of Lehi are interested in creating a better place to live and raise our families under the constitution that should assure each individual the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet we stand in danger of losing these rights because we no longer care. The present shocking situation was summed up by J. Edgar Hoover in these words; "morality, integrity, law and order, and other cherished principles of our great heritage are battling for survival in many communities today. They are under constant attack from degrading and corrupting influences which if not halted will sweep away every vestige of decency and order remaining in our society." A recent issue of Babson's Washington Forecast Letter, carried a four-pag- e special supplement that conclued as follows: "Unless those in authority in the United States can be influenced to abandon the suicidal course on which they have embarked, or unless they can be replaced by men who will, we cannot hope to restore in our nation the kind of domestic peace and order which has made our many generations proud to be Americans . . . living in a land of freedom, security, opportunity and justice under law. Serious and concerned citizens are asking, "Can we cope with these threatening realities? Yes, we can if we not only allow but insist that local police do their job, they could handle illicit drug traffic, rioting and looting. Yes we can, if we have the courage and the wisdom to return to basic concepts of our founding fathers, those eternal verities, the rule of law and order and sound fiscal policies which this nation established, with an aroused citizenry and the help of Almighty God, it can be accomplished. As we get underway with this new concept of a party, the Lehi Progressive Party, we solicit the support of all citizens of Lehi who care enough to keep this community law abiding, safe and united. We encourage all young people old enough to vote to investigate and support the new party that appreciates the fact that it is your community of tomorrow, you can make it hat you will. have a candidate on the ticket, a young man with the enthusiasm of youth, a young man of integrity who is not afraid to be heard. Let him know how you feel, give him your support. We feel this is a start in the right direction and with candidates of unquestioned integrity and love of country and a great desire to keep Lehi a good place to live and raise a family. We need your support! Come and join with us for a better tomorYou row. Jay Haws Dear Editor: Next week, October 8, 9, 10, we are having our fall cleanup campaign. Last year was the first time a fall cleanup was held in Lehi, and as a committee, we felt, that it was very successful. We realize it is difficult for people to have as much enthusiasm in the fall as they do in the spring, but still the fall is an ideal time to clean-up- . Also, the Beautification Committee wanted to extend its appreciation to the employees of Lehi for all the work they have done this year in assisting the beautification efforts of all of us. The city crews have been most willing to donate their time to clean-up- . These men often end up working on Saturday for no additional money to complete our beautification projects. They have assisted greatly this past summer in tearing out the old building on Main Street, and the black topping of the alley behind the stores on Main. The two vacant lots left by the removal of this old store and the old home by the bakery were also filled with sand and smoothed off by the city crews. Needless to say, all of these projects greatly increased the already heavy work load of city employees. Therefore, we are encouraging everyone in town to do as much as each can. We would like to see more neighborhood effort, and those with trucks and equipment to assist those who need help. We hope everyone will take enthusiastic advantage of our fall campaign.
