Show Open House to Honor Alice ParkerSunday fan, THURSDAY. APRIL 10. LEHI FREE PRESS r, An open house has been planned to honor Alice Parker on Sunday, April 13, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at her home, 306 West 5th North, American Fork, the occasion being her 80th birthday. Alice was born on April 12, 1895 in American Fork, a daughter of Martha Mitchell i MISS VALERIE LAYCOCK . . . bride-ele- ct one-yea- Miss Valerie Laycock, Brent F. Strong Plan May Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Clifford B. of American Fork announce the marriage of their daughter, Valerie to Brent F. Strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd F. Strong, of Lehi. The couple will be married Friday, May 16 at the LaFeria Reception Center in Lehi. A wedding reception honoring the couple will be held the same evening from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Lay-coc- k has participated in sports and lettered in football and wrestling. He has chosen electronics as his vocation, and plans to continue his education next fall. Attending the bride will be Susan Strong as matron of hon- or, and bridesmaids, Ellen friends and relatives Laursen, Tammy Freeman, Sue Laycock, Leisa Laycock; flower girls will be Sandra Laycock and Shannon Morgan. Serving as best man will be to attend. is a senior at the Fork High School. She will also graduate from Seminary this spring. The groom is a senior at the , Lehi High School. (irover Cleveland, as a youth, was paid $4 a week to work as a law clerk. ALICE PARKER member of the Local, State and National Education Association. She is a life member of Delta Kappa Gamma where she has served as president, music chairman, treasurer and on numerous committee assignments. She also received the honor of serv ing on the International Music Committee. Alice has been an active member of the l.DS Church having her first responsibility at age 12 when she was organist for the 3rd Ward Primary. She has also played for the Sunday School organization and has been ward organist in both the 3rd and l()th Wards and is presently serving in the 3rd Ward as organist for the ward and for the Relief Society. She has served under lf bishoprics. In 1922 she was stake organist for the Primary and stake organist for the MIA. She was stake organist when American Fork, Lehi and Pleasant Grove were all one stake. She served with Stake Presidents Stephen L. Chipman and Clifford I'.. Young. She was accompanist for the Stake Choir under the direction of Finest Paxman and later with K. J. Bird. She has also played the graduation march for many years for the LDS Seminary graduates. All friends, relatives and neighbors are cordially invited to greet Alice on Sunday. J iBiii If It has been quite some time since we've told you what's going on at the public library, so we though we'd best get busy and let you in on some of the good things that are happening at the Lehi Carnegie Library. First off I don't think many of the patrons and townspeople have been in to see the library since it's had it's "face lifted." You really should take time to pay us a visit. We're sure our bright new interior will give you a lift. That, however, isn't the real reason we're writing this article. We are fairly bursting at the seams with many many new books. Guard to Sponsor Artillery Olympics at Camp Williams guardsmen have won earlier competition in Artillery meets throughout Utah and will be competing against each other to earn the right to be called Olympic Masters. The .500 Some 125 guardsmen will earn the patch that gives them that title after the competition in 29 different categories is over. We have quite a few new sports books, which we know are very popular. There are some new novels - a couple are "Storm's Fnd", a gothic novel by Rebecca James, and "Anya" by Susan Fromberg Schaeffer, and a war novel, "The Last Dogfight" by Martin Caidin. We shouldn't forget the many new books we have, too, on sewing, gardening, baking, n and almost every other subject you can think of quickly. We have a lovely new set of art encyclopedias which you may use in the library, but cannot be circulated. She was neither absent or tardy throughout these years. She graduated from American Fork High School in 1914 with 13 students. She was only absent at the time of her father's death. She was accompanist in high school for assemblies and choral groups. She also played the organ in the Stake Tabernacle for the graduation march for many years. After graduating, she attended Brigham Young University where she studied methods in piano instruction. For several years, she taught private piano lessons and also group instruction. In 1923 she attended BYU r Norand completed a mal Course. She taught school at the Harrington School for 22 years guiding the early education of boys and girls in the community. She treasures the names and pictures of all the students she has taught over the years. She continued her education at BYU and Utah State University until she had the equivalent of a college student and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1943. She also received a Master of Science degree in 1949. She served in the capacity of a supervisor for 14 years and retired in i960 and was honored with a "This is your Life" party. During her years as both a teacher and a supervisor, she was never absent from her work and never needed a substitute. Since her formal retirement she has worked as a substitute teacher and still is.
