Excitement Mrs. La Jean Clarke, native They're oh so joyful, but I'M out for the count Rebecca of Rexburg, Idaho, is anew Third Grade teacher at Sego Lily Ele- mentary. La Jean graduated from high school inRexburg, attended Ricks College in Rexburg, and then re ceived her degree from BYU with an Elementary Education com posite major. She taught at the Shelley School in American Fork in 1969-7- 0 and came to Lehi this year. She uses lots of "heart" in her teaching. ' I like to teach children, not books." She follows the course of study outlined by the board of education, but when a child is curious and asks ques tions, she takes time to answer In her art studies and explain. she gives ideas and mediums and then lets the children exercise their imaginations and creative She explains how to abilities. use the tools, brushes, paints, etc., and how to care for them, but does not stifle a child's thought or imagination. Recently she put on the bulletin board the words 'What Does Christmas Mean?' The boys and girls were given sequins, sparkles, paper, etc., and the results of this project were very gratifying. Each child's individuality was expressed in his art objects. La Jean loves to sew, cook, and read. Her husband, Val, just completed his student teach ing at BYU after receiving his degree last May. He, too, will follow the teaching profession The main interest in their lives right now is their eight month old son, Carl. Val is General Secretary, and Scout Representative of their ward and La Jean has taught Primary. They would someday like to return to Rexburg to make their home.
