After the war he served as an instructor in military science and polo coach at the University of Floyd W. Goaies, Lehi Native, ''' Dies in California ' San Francisco of a heart ailment. A graduate ofLehi HighSchool, Col. Goates, received a degree in business administration from Utah State University and a master's degree in merchandising from New York University. He was a charter member of Alpha at Utah State University. Col. Goates served as merchandising director for several New York firms, then was merchandising director and coordinator for ZCMI in Salt Lake City and its branch stores in Utah and Idaho. Ron Peck and Jeff Smith Jeff Smith, Ron Peck Receive Eagle 30-ye- ar Scout Awards at Court of Honor Sister of Lehi Two Lehi Explorer Scouts have earned their Eagle Scout award. The awards were presented at the Court of Honor last week to Jeff Smith and Ron Peck. Jeff is 16 years old and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mearle B. Smith. He is a Junior at the Lehi High School, where he is active in sports. He is a member of the Sego Lily Students To Present Program Second grade students at the Sego Lily Elementary School will present a program tomorrow, Friday, it was reported by Paul Hanson, principal. The presentation will be given at 10:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and all parents who would like to attend either performance are welcome, Mr. Hanson said. Theme of the original presentation will be "Cleanup Time in Mother Goose Land.' The program will include music and choral readings. Goates, 74, former Salt Lake City businessman and university instructor, died Friday, in an Army hospital in ' Mys tery Personality" During World War H, he served on the staff of Gen. Douglas MacArthur in the South Pacific. After the war CoL Goates directed the Army's Blue Danube Radio Network in Europe, keeping six air for 18 news stations hours a day, and trailing speakers and announcers. He later was assigned to the 1st Army at Governor's Island, New York. A member of the LDS Church, Col. Goates served as a high priest group leader in the Los Altos Ward. A native of Lehi, Col. Goates was born June 16, 1896, the son of George Hyrum and Louisa Munns Goates. He married Florence Sandback May 18, 1918. She died Nov. 2, 1918. He married Jessica Bird June 27, 1923 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Survivors include his widow and son, Richard B., both of Pal-o- s Verdes Estates; three grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Leslie, long time newspaper reporter and columnist; Mrs. Emma J. Phillips, both Salt Lake City; Francis R., serving an LDS mission in Scotland; Mrs. LaureenG. HansenofOrem. Funeral services were held Monday in Los Altos, California. Additional funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel in Lehi. Burial was in the Lehi City Cemetery.
