Councilman Kent Davis conducted the meeting. "We really do appreciate this,' he said. "It will improve our community and on behalf of the Lehi City Council I would like to compliment all of you who won." Mr. Davis noted that Lehi won more awards in the State contest than any other city in the State other than Salt Lake City. "I think this is commendable for a community our size," he said. He and Councilman Kenneth Whimpey, who was also at the ceremony, complimented Bertrand Beck, chairman of the Landscape Improvement Committee, for their efforts in assisting and encouraging the citizens to earn the recognition. Mr. Beck noted that many more awards could have been won by local residents if only they had entered the contest. "We would like to have you maintain your civic pride and enter your yards and homes again in next year's contest." He noted that the community was going to enter their scrapbook in the national contest soon. "This year we kept the campaign up throughout the year, rather than just in the Spring," he said, noting that it paid dividends in the beauty of the community throughout the summer and fall. Mr. Beck commended members of the Lehi City Council for their support and backing of the program. "They have kept the street sides mowed and assisted in many other ways with the beautification projects." He urged everyone present to continue their efforts and assist their neighbors in continuing to make Lehi a more attractive and beautiful place in which to live.
