Also he was the last toll keeper of the Jordan River Bridge. He taught school in the unfinished First Ward church, where they used hand hewn logs for benches. Mrs. Hutchings' mother was born in Lehi, the year the railroad reached Lehi. She was born in an adobe house on the Northwest corner of the block where the Lehi Stake Center is now located. She helped strip sugar cane to make molasses and knew many pioneer hardships. Her parents crossed the plains in Captain Daniel Robinson's hand cart company in 1860. The Broadbent people and also Raymond Stewart's grandmother, came in this same company.
