Carbon threatened to break the game wide open on a three-poiplay, which gave them Lehi again led with 31 seconds left in the half on a three-poiplay by Terry Kirkham to make but a free throw and a it field goal put Carbon back in the lead as the gun sounded. Carbon came back strong in the second half and quickly got a lead over the Pioneers. The 3 closest Lehi could cut the margin was 1 on the outside shooting of Hinton. Carbon made the difference in the game with their 9 rebounding and jumped to a advantage. A late - game surge by the Pioneers threatened in the final minutes of play, but was not enough in the final seconds. with 5:25 7 After leading 7 remaining and as much as with 2:06 left, Lehi was able to whittle the score to 3 with 50 seconds left to play. Lehi' s six straight points came on free throws by Brent Miner and a couple of field goals by David Lind. As Carbon inbound-e- d the ball they were fouled, but missed the first shot of a situation. However, they stole a Lehi pass and were fouled attempting a layup. Carbon made both of the free throws with 35 seconds remaining. Lehi brought the ball down the court quickly but missed the shot and on the rebound a jump ball was called. After a frantic scramble another tie was called and Lehi got the tip, with seven seconds left. Lehi took the last shot and missed, giving Carbon a one point margin and the game. In Friday night' splay, the Provo Bulldogs rolled easily past the Pioneers with a win. The battling Pioneers' were just no match for the Bulldogs, who rolled to a 15lead in the first quarter. The Pioneers tried to neutralize Provo's greater height, speed and firepower by employing a type of offense and going only for the "cinch" baskets, but the strategy failed because Lehi couldn't penetrate the Provo defense for good inside shots and were off target on what few bombs they tried to lob over the Provo team's heads. The Pioneers never recovered from the shattering effects of Provo's whirlwind attack that rolled up a 2 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 0 half-tim- e advantage. The Bull9 at dogs were out in front mark. the The P rovo defense was so tough that only Brent Miner scored in the double figures, earning ten points for the evening. first ter Kim 13-- 4, Roger J. If we didn't do this to help the people of Viet Nam, do you think it would make us seem any stronger? Keep up your faith with the promises that we have made?
