Show If Is Essays on Americanism During the season when patriotism runs high, when we celebrate the birthday of our Nation, and the Anniversary of the coming of the Pioneers to what is now our State-Uta- h, Cub Scouts have composed essays on Americanism. "Title, "That's America to Me," these compositions express the feelings of these young boys, the future leaders of our State and Nation. Dwight Hinton is the First Place winner with Larry Jenkins, Second and Mark Price, Third Place. "That's America to Me" By Dwight Hinton, 8th Ward First Place Winner I can go camping at the hills. I can go fishing at the lake. I can go swimming at the pool, and go read a book. I can have a picnic at noon and wade in the river. I can tak a nap or climb a tree. I can go take a bike ride or write a letter. I can pick apples or ride a horse. I can buy a dog or pet a cat. I can catch a mouse or build me a house. I can do all these because I'm free. That's what America means friends and freedom. America means worshipping our Heavenly Father. I like to sing, songs about America. I love America. It's the best home land in the world. By o Blaine Hales Cedar Valley Ward America to me is the best place anyone, could choose to live, because of the freedom we have as citizens. People in other countries don't have their free agency to choose and do many of the things they would like to do. We as Americans can choose our own religion, vote for the person we want to lead our country as president, and maybe to become president someday and we have equal opportunities for education. These are some of the important things of what America means to me. By Hall, 3rd Ward Here In America we are free to go church.. We can travel and visit when and where we want. We have food, clothes, and homes. My parents can vote. I am thankful for the flag. We should all learn to take care of it and what it means to us. Being a cub scout is part of living in America too. The fourth of July By Shane or Independence Day was the be- ginning otour freedom. By Kevin Cardon, 7th Ward As an American we have the right to worship as we please. To work and play and have fun. If someone does something wrong and the police think we did it we have a right to have a trial to make sure we did it. We have the right to say what we think is right to our government. To elect a president and the people we want to represent us in the government. We have laws to keep us safe from harm. We have a right to have an education. I am grateful to have this freedom because some na- tions don't have this freedom. This is America to me. Cedar Valley Ward I am glad that I live in America and I am happy for our free dom. I am glad that America is not a communist country. Iam glad that we can choose what church we want to go to. I am thankful for America. I am thank ful that we are free to do whatever we want to do in our coun try. I am thankful for our free dom of movement in our country. I am happy for the police to stop thieves from robbing banks.
