The banquet will begin at 12:00 noon, and the main speaker will be Ross Thoresen, who is the manager oi tne industrial Rela tions Council, an employee as soelation furnishing service to employers that is designed to im prove their management ability ana tneir relationships with their employees. Mr. Thoresen is also management counselor for Service Merchandizers of America, a trade association. In addition, he has acted as an advisor to the California Farm Bureau in con nection with labor difficulties in agriculture and has been a frequent speaker at meetings of various farm groups throughout the West. He has had more than 20 years of experience with some of the most difficult problems in our society as a representative and spokesman for management in many iaior disputes. This should, therefore, be a very interesting and worthwhile meeting for all in attendance. All Farm Bureau members are invited to attend. Tickets to the Convention are available through the local presidents or the Farm Bureau offices. American Timber Firm Building In Pleasant Grove Bernard Niedermeyer, Presi dent of American Timber & Trad ing Co., Inc., said today that his firm has begun operations at a new plant in Pleasant Grove, as a result of a recent Depart ment of Defense contract of some $231,000, plusapproximately $200,000 of contracts which are being diverted to Pleasant Grove from American Timber & Trad ing Co. operations on the West Coast. "We are pleased to be affil iated with the great state of Utah, and look forward to many happy years of association with the residents in and around Pleasant Grove,' said Mr. Nei dernieyer. . ; "I am especially grateful for the able assistance of Utah Sen ator Wallace F. Bennett, who worked hard on our behalf to see that this new industry was 'secured for his state," he add' ed. Mr. Niedermeyer stated that Senator Bennett's interest in Utah's industrial needs, and es pecially those of surplus labor areas such as Pleasant Grove, was a key factor in the award ing of the contract. "It is anticipated that the plant will grow and will manufacture civilian as well as military items," said Mr. Niedermeyer "The operation has commenced with a skeleton crew, and will reach full production in a short time, employing 25 or more per sons.' The firm's President said American Timber & Trading Co., Inc. has made application to the railroads for a treating-in- transit privilege. "If this is granted, the plant will undoubtedly enlarge, employing a greater number of people." Mr. Niedermeyer said his company has plants in Oregon where the home office is lo- cated Ut. Valley Cotillion To Hold Dinner Show February 22 at the Royal Inn Cafe in Provo is the date set for the Utah Valley Honors Cotillion Dinner Show. The 56 Utah Valley girls having received instructions in French and Restaurant training will use their skills by ordering their dinner in French. During the evening members will be allowed three minutes to display a new talent that has been developed by each girl throughout the year. Talents may include modeling self made items, dancing, music or any one of the arts. Mrs. Larry Jensen, Executive Consultant and Mrs. Bert Mitchell, special events chairmen will be assisted by the Alumni Cotillion officers in arranging for this special evening. This years Alumni officers include President Kathy Hawkins, Vice President Glenda Bowen, Secretary-Treasure- r, Susan Hanson, Special Events Chairman, Marilyn Blackhurst, Transportat- ion chairman, Lou Dean Tom-llnso- n. The next special event will be Honors Ball held in March. Mrs. Howard Stewart is this year's new ball chairman. er The Utah State Banquet and conference will Mid-Wint- beckon a good number of local Lion's Club members this weekend, as International Vice-Prident David Evans joins the group as keynote speaker. Also participating in the conference will be the Honorable Floyd Hamman, International Di rector from Arizona, who will be guest speaker at the Inter national Counselors Banquet to be held at the Rodeway Inn, Salt Lake City, Friday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. This occasion will mark the first major event of the two-dconference, with other dignitar ies expected to be in attendance to include International Director James Lundberg, Provo; Inter national Albert Grosnen and International Counselor Francis N. Mortenson, Am, Fork. Utah State Lion's Club publicity chairman Byron L. Mc Far lane, of American Fork, will also be in attendance, as will wives of the special guests. The Banquet is the second largest gathering of Lion's Club members in the en tire world. The banquet will be held Sat., Feb. 17, at the Terrace Ballroom. An entourage of dignitaries will meet Mr.. Named Homemaker Termed "Good" At West Jordan The West Jordan sugar factory sliced the last 1967 crop beets recently and moved toward the end of its annual operating season. John Seely, manager of the South Utah District of Utah-IdaSugar Company, said the operating season, or campaign, had He noted that been "good." an exceptionally fine harvest in the district last fall meant that 1967 crop sugar beets were received in excellent condition. Temperatures during the storage period when beets were held in piles were near optimum. Con sequently, storage losses were low and processing quality remained good. Production of sugar at the West Jordan plant amounted to 37,000,000 pounds this campaign. The factory had operated 24 hours a day since campaign was start About three ed last October. more days will be required for the completion of sugar processing at the plant, after which its equipment will be silent until next fall. However, crews will be busy at the plant in the meantime, doing necessary mainten ance on machinery and loading out sugar that has been manu factured and stored either in bags or in the two huge con crete bins at the factor.
