Show THE FAMILY-19- 67 LDS Sociables Addition to Hall-Million-Dollar Christmas Dance l Lehi Junior High Hears Completion extensive remodeling program is nearly completed at the Lehi Junior High School, it was An reported by Principal J. Ferrin Gurney. Completed in time for the beginning of school this fall addi-- 1 was the new tion. This addition houses the school lunch center, kitchen, storage area, rest rooms, and a large music room, complete with practice rooms and office. Construction was accomplished by Prestwich and Davis Construction Company of Provo. The final stage of the remodeling of the original building is nearly done, Mr. Gurney said. This includes the complete of the auditorium. New wall covering has been installed. This covers the area formerly in windows, which have been bricked up and covered to allow the room to be completely darkened and also eliminates the need for the heavy drapery. A new ceiling has been installed and new lighting is now ready for installation to complete the project. This remodeling Is in keeping with the program of continuing updating the building. Last year the library space was doubled to include two conference rooms. These are enclosed in glass so that the activities can be supervised by the librarian while small groups are working together on a project or report. The soundproofing also eliminates disturbing other students who are studying or reading in the reading room. All the reading and reference material is now on display shelves around the walls of the reading room, within easy access to all students, Mr. Gurney said. A new office and work area has been provided for the librarian. The old library room has been converted into an Educational Materials Center where all the school equipment such as films, maps, projects of various types, television sets, etc., are stored and available to teachers when needed for a particular class. These projects, together with the hardsurfacing of the parking lot and the installation of an system throughout, updates the building to make it a useful, serviceable and attractive place of learning. Much has been learned about the celestial galaxies since that time, and men of science continue to challenge their mysteries. Complicated measuring instruments have reached the moon and are sending back research data, paving the way for future space observation and travel. Over these nineteen hundred odd years, the oft-tol- d story of the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem and their later flight into Egypt epitomizes the philosophy of the family the cornerstone of civilization. Man, while attempting to unlock the mysteries of outer space, should take time out to pause and recall that it was the birth of a Savior in a stable at Bethlehem that helped to make this all possible. Today's wise men who challenge the universe by orbiting new and bigger vehicles into space should also fall in behind the original three Wise Men guided by the first satellite, to pay homage to the Christ concept and the design of brotherly love. Ruth Johnson as the lesson leader presents the lessons in a most , interesting way. Nettie Warenski, historian, assigns a history to be given at the meeting each month. Many things are learned about the pioneers as the lessons and histories are heard each month. Light refreshments are served each month by three members, alternating each time, making the " meetings seem more festive. The meeting is usually held in the Fifth Ward Relief Society room. Last year, it was held four times at the home of the captain and once each at the homes of Elva Peterson and Wanda Bushman. This was done in order to make . it more convenient for the older members, and avoid climbing the ' steps to the church. Now, the Fifth Ward Relief Society room has a new, beautiful North entrance, with only a few steps, so this will be most desirable for the camp meetings. Four books are purchased each . year from the county organization. They are sold at the camp to those whose names are drawn. The names drawn this year are, Ruth Banks, Ethel Watkins, Elva Allen and Lovina Royle. In April, the national convention was held in Salt Lake City.
