Installs New Officers Department RECEIVE "DUTY TO GOD" AWARDS This outstanding achievement was attained by Richard Van Wagoner (left), Paul Glathar, Paul Robinson and Davis Peterson. The awards were presented by Bishop Duane Woffinden Four Fifth Ward Young Men Attain "Duty to God" Awards Four young men of the Lehi Fifth Ward were recently present ed their "Duty to God" awards by Bishop Duane Woffinden. This at tainment represents four years of regular attendance at church meetings and many activities, These boys are Davis A. Peterson, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest F. Peterson; Paul Glathar, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Glathar; Richard S. Van Wagoner, 15, son of Mrs. Gayle Van Wagoner, and Paul Robinson, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard W. Robinson. Davis A. Peterson Davis is currently serving as organist for the priesthood in the ward and also for the stake priset-hoo- d union meetings. For the past four years he has had 95 per cent attendance at Sunday School, priesthood and sacrament meetings and MIA. He holds the Life rank in the scouting program. He is a sophomore in high school, where he is a member of the orchestra and chorus groups, and also a Seminary student where he acts as organist. Davis is active in musical groups, dancing, dramatics and enjoys other sports, such as fishing and hunting. Paul Glathar Paul Glathar holds the remark- - Anne Brough Lehi Native, Dies Suddenly A. Coming as a shock to family members here was the sudden death of Mrs. Anne Karen (Carrie) Andreason Boyd Brought 79. Mrs. Brough, a native of Lehi and sister to Mrs. Nina Colledge and Mrs. E. W. (Elizabeth) Shelley, passed away at her home near Lyman, Wyoming, Sunday, April 22, at 6 p.m. following a stroke. Her husband, Parley Brough, was with her at the time. She was born Sept. 15. 1882, a daughter of Joseph and Eunice Flanders Andreason. She was married to Charles Boyd in 1907. He died in 1924. She was later married to Parley Brough, June 26, 1929, in Salt Lake City. They have lived on a ranch near Lyman, Wyoming, for many years. She was a member of the LDS Church. She is survived by her husband, of Wyoming; one son and three Southerland, Ralph, daughters, Oregon; Mrs. Laurie Backes, of Grants Pass, Ore.; Mrs. Ora Smith, Klamath Falls, Ore.; and Mrs. Eva Atkinson, Lakeview, Oregon.; 12 grandchildren, 13 brothers and sisters, Roy, American Fork; Ivan and Wilford, Magna, Leslie, Filer, Idaho; Mrs. Colledge and Mrs. Shelley, Lehi. All of her children came from Oregon for the funeral which will be held Thursday (today) at 12 noon in the Wing Mortuary chapel. Friends may call prior to the, services. Interment will take place in the' Salt Lake City cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Shelley and Stanford Shelley made the trip to Wyoming Monday, to assist their uncle with the necessary arrangements. n; PHONES FROM CHICAGO Miss Joan Evans, United Airlines stewardess, phoned her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neldon Evans, from Chicago, 111., with an Easter message. He is an Eagle scout and has added one' palm to this achievement. He is a ward teacher and is studying in Seminary. In the tenth grade at school, he played on the junior varsity basketball team and threw the discus on the track team. All types of athletics and sports are special interests. . Richard Van Wagoner ' Richard has attained a 100 per cent record for attendance in all church activities, during the past four years. In the tenth grade in shool he plays the trumpet and the French horn in the band. He has attained his Eagle Scout badge and five palms. Richard has the honor of earning 102 merit badges and will receive his last merit badge in the May court of honor. He is president of his Deacon's quorum.-Pau- l Robinson Paul Robinson has attained, his Eagle Scout badge and one palm. During the past four years he has maintained a 90 to 100 per cent attendance record. He is an Explorer Scout, sings in the ward choir and takes part In MIA plays. A sophomore in high school, he sings in the A'cappella choir and was class representative last year. Woodwork in shop is a favorite activity. He is very active in sports including football, baseball, track and basketball. First First Ward Bazaar Seth Littlef ord 94 This Week Am. Legion Vice-Cor- n mander Arden Stewart took charge of the , installation of of ficers for Lehi's American Legion Post 19, at the meeting last Thurs day. Also present for the occasion were Department Commander Clint McShane and Department Adjutant Dean Hall. Commander McShane spoke on the importance of voting and the Legion s efforts to encourage citizens to exercise their franchise in this respect. Adjutant Hall emphasized the point that veterans should stand back of the American Legion in order to assure protection of their veteran's rights. He also stressed the fact that the Legion is a para mount organization in fighting the inroads of communism in the Uni ted States. High commendation was given the local post for their' progress and increased activities. . Pointing out that there are now 54 members affiliated this year, Adjutant Hall expressed the desire to see 154 enrolled by next year. (Local officers reported that there are. some 200 who are eligible to join the Lehi organization). New Commander Post Commander Merlin Peart was relieved of the duties of commander with a hearty vote of appreciation for his service. Norman D. Scown was installed as commander, with Dennis Finch and Paul Evans taking the oath of office as first and second Vincent F. Scown was sworn in as post adjutant, with Merlin Peart as historian; Shirley Neel as finance officer and Gordon Cedarstrom, sergeant-at-arm- s. Keith Clark represented Chaplin Merlin Bourne, who was unable to attend the meeting. Widows Pensions Department Service Officer Ma- loy Bills, who is also department chairman of Boys State, gave a short talk on why veterans should go to their veterans representat ives concerning disability pensions. It was stressed that proper application and estab lishment of eligibility made in such cases as veterans widows and others would aid in avoiding com plications and inconvenience. He reported that the Boys State program is being set up to be carried out in June. Friday, May 4 The remarkable birthday of 94 was attained this week by Seth Littleford, well knowwn Lehi resident, who took the important date in "stride" on his' daily walk uptown. The walk itself is a notable achievement, as Mr. Little-for- d suffered a fractured leg several years ago. He takes his wheel chair with him and sits down when he becomes tired or desires to take a little more time in the open air. Wednesday, April 25 was his natal day. Hearty congratulations were received from manv friends anil rel atives, and from his family members who include Mrs. E. j. Mower (Margaret) of Provo; Forrest and Grant Littleford, and Mrs. Denzel (Isetta) Turner, all of Lehi, and Jack Littleford, now of Los Alomitos, Calif. Also particularly noting the day was a niece, Mrs. W. P. (Mable) Jones, public health nurse, who was reared in the Littleford home. A daughter, Mrs. A. B. (Mary) Gill passed away several vears aeo.
