Farm Gayle Evans, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Evans, has just reby Dr. ceived his appointment Royden C. Braithwaite, CSV director, as the new superintendent cf the College of Southern Utah valley experimental farm. Mr. Evans was born in Lehi from the Lehi and graduated High School and the LDS Seminary. He was active in the First Ward in his church work. Mr. Evans was graduated from tne Utah State Univesity in 1955 with a B.S. degree in animal husbandry. During 1953-5- 4 he studied at Colorado State College. Folhe was lowing his graduation, commissioned in the U.S. Army and completed a two-yetour of duty at Fort Ord, California. While in the service, Mr. Evans was promiently identified with the Stake Missionary program. In his new position, Mr. Evans will supervise the activities of the CSU experimental farm which is located west of Cedar City on a 700-acr- e operation. Activities include the development of beef cattle and the raising of alfalfa grass and grain crops. An outstanding herd of experimental sheep is also quartered at the farm. A new dairy establishment will be built soon. Mr. Evans is married and he and Mrs. Evans are the parents of three children, Susanne, 5, Donald, 3, and Mark, 1. Mrs. Evans is the former Lola Wagstaff of American Fork. Mr. Evans has two brothers and a sister residing in Lehi, Boise, Martin and Melody, as well as his parents. Another sister, Mrs. Lee (Carol) Erickson lives in Pullman, Washington. Pioneers Convention Mr. and Mrs. James A. Carson, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Bushman, Mr. and Mrs. David B. Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Jay C. Cox attended the Sons of the Utah Pioneers Convention which was held at Cedar City August 8, 9 and 10. Places of interest were al'"o visited, including Ironton, Uah, situated west of Cedar C'ty, early-da- y site of iron mining activities, which is still oroducini- - for the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company and the Geneva Steel Company. Combat Training Army Pvt. Ronald J. Curtis, whose wife, ReNae, lives in Lehi, recently completed eight weeks o' basic combat training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Curtis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vern L. Curtis of Lehi, was graduated from Lehi High School in 1954. Clinton William Martineau of Lehi, recently discharged from the U.S. Navy, has been offered employment by the Philco Corporation of Philadelphia, Penn. as an electronic technician. Clinton served three years in the Navy and during this time attended electronic school which is guaranteed to high school graduates. He expressed his gratitude to the Navy for the excellent training which was made available to him and made this employment possible.
