Hospital Notes Elmer Manning entered the hospital September 19 for a major operation. Knollin and Shirley Messer-smit- h Haws have a son, born September 19. Kenth Thrasher entered the hospital September 19 for a major operation, performed September 20. Utah Home Agent Wins 4--H Fellowship Leadership ability, service in Extension work and a record of active participation as a Club member have earned for Ruth Brasher, Home Demonstration Agent in Utah County, a national fellowship. She is one of 4-- four 1957-5- 8 fellowship winners who will receive a $2000 if study grant awarded by Inc. Her study program begins In September. Through a cooperative arrangement with the Federal Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Miss Brasher will be in Washington for nine months. Enroute to the capitol, she will stop over in Chicago to study the services of the National Committee on Boys and Girls Club Work and to visit several business concerns. Youth and youth work are especially important to Miss Brasher who has organized many club activities to maintain the She interest of older hopes to do research on a program for older club members. During her seven year career she was club president for three years. She took part in a wide variety of programs, was a committee member for and served community exhibits, Club council for on county two years. Miss Brasher was an International Farm Youth Exchange delegate to the Philippines, and has written newspaper articles on her experiences. After being chosen in high school she went on to attend Carbon Junior College and earned her bachelor of science degree at Brigham Young University. She was vice president of the Home Economics club and secretary of Gamma Phi Omicron, a home economics honorary society. Miss Brasher 4-- 4-- Angus Gardner, who underwent surgery at the L. D. S. hospital, was transferred to the Lehi hospital for medical care this week. Mrs. Emily Johnson is reported to be improving, and Mrs. Rula Dorton is about the same. Both are medical patients. The man who tries to work for good, believing in its eventual victory, while he may suffer setback and even disaster, will never know defeat. The only deadly sin I know is cynicism. Henry L. N A TIONA I Lehi Free Press Utah County Women's Legislative Council To Hold First Board Meeting in Provo The opening meeting of the of the Utah County Women's Legislative Council is set for Thursday, October 10, at the in Worrier's Council Clubhouse Provo at 9:30 a. m. It will have a patriotic theme. The date was set at the recent meeting of the board held at the home of Mrs. Dallas Young Sr. with the president of the group, Mrs. Orville Gunther, in charge. The meeting date was advanced one week in order not to conflict with LDS Relief Society conference in Salt Lake City. . New board members were introduced to the group. The following boards members will serve with Mrs. Gunther for the next two years: Mrs. Young, Provo. Mrs. L.
