He has recently been on several small sightseeing tours with the Saints there, and he finds this is aiding him in getting an insight into the lives of the people there, as well as assisting him in learning their language. He has been well, and is enjoying his mission very much. Barnes, son of Mrs. LaFerne Barnes, was transferred to Knoxville, Tennessee, in June, and now is senior elder there. Eldr Barnes left Lehi, January 16, and went to Louisville, Kentucky, where he was assigned to Beckley, West Virginia. He reports he enjoyed his work at Beckley so well that he is homesick for the people there, however he is getting acquainted in Knoxville and is kept very active in his missionary work there. Elder Turner gave a talk in the Sunday evening meeting. He reports that although the elders have been in Valdosta before, contacts are difficult to make, but that the work is progressing. Elder Gary Lewis Begins Final Half Year of Mission Elder Gary Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Lewis, has begun the final half year of his mission, with only 5 and a half months remaining before his return. He is at present supervising elder at Des Moines, Iowa, where he is president of the Central Iowa district. Recently he attended conference at Nauvoo, Illinois, with Marion D. Hanks of the first council of Seventy there to conduct the sessions. He has been teaching an investigators' Sunday School class, sings Russell in the choir, and reports he is enjoying his labors very much. Goates has saved up his leave time, and plans to visit soon to Paris and Geneva, and the birthplace of his grandmother, Mrs. Alice Phillips of Lehi, in Switzerland, then to Rome and other points of interest. He is serving with the U. S. Army, as a mimeograph operator in the mail service. Swiss-Austria- Elder Dan Peck, accompanied by seven other missionaries, recently returned to Nampa, Idaho, where he is serving, after attendat Portland, ing conference S. Elder Peck said that Nampa is a city of 19,000 people, with 21 different faiths, and only 4 LDS wards. His first Sunday there found him speaking in Priesthood meeting, Sunday School, and in a fireside chat. He recently assisted in baptism of a family of five, and two other persons. He left here June 15 for the mission headquarters at Portland, and was assigned to the Nampa area. He reports that the missionaries have a full day, starting at 6 a. m.
