Phillips Family to Hold Reunion August 3 One of the largest crowds ever to attend a July 24 celebration in Cedar Valley thronged the town and rodeo grounds last Thursday, when the community sponsored its annual celebration. A full day of events provided entertainment for the many visitors, from a parade and program in the morning, to games in the afternoon, climaxed rodeo in the by the evening, followed by a dance. All proceeds went into the Cedar Fort ward building fund. Those assisting in making the celebration a success were the Hazel Ault, following: parade, Nancy Smith, Donna Cook; program, Evelyn Peterson, Fawn Berry, Rose Cook; games, Sam Wilcox and Alice Cook. All units of the Utah National Guard are now up to full strength, according to Maj. Gen. Maxwell E. Rich, state adjutant general. Utah National Guard Units at Full Strength Merriel Wathen Leaves For Marine Training Although authorized strength have been met, units throughout the state are taking names on waiting lists to fill vacancies which may occur. Individuals interested in the Utah National Guard should contact commanders of the local units to have their names placed on these lists, General Rich said. Openings, according to General Rich, are occurring frequently due to occupational conflicts, transfers out of town and health reasons. Physical requirements in the Utah National Guard are extremely rigid, he said. General Rich stressed that opportunities are still available in local units for promotions and learning of technical skills. Service schools offer Utah Guardsmen first class training in a wide variety of subjects. Help also can be provided at hometown armories for young men 17 to 26 with military obligations. Service in the Utah National Guard can help reduce these obligations, the general declared. e All armories are staffed by Guard personnel qualified to explain these military figures Merriel Wathen, Jr., son of Mr. left and Mrs. M.
