Wilcox Utah Municipal League Holds Dog Owners Sessions Continued complaints from local citizens regarding nuisance dogs have caused the City Council to order a strict enforcement of all city ordinances pertaining to dogs. All dog owners are warned that they may be held liable for any All violation of the ordinance. violations of the city dog ordinances are classed as misdemeanors and carry a penalty of a fine of not more than $50, or imprisonment in the city jail of not more than 30 days, or both. In brief, the city dog ordinances are as follows: 1. Every person owning any dog or bitch over two months old within the city limits must obtain a dog license for it. 2. If such tax is not paid, the owner must within one month slay or cause to be slain the dog in question. If the dog is not killed within three days after notice is given by the dog tax collector, the collector may take the dog from the premises arid slay it. 3. It is unlawful for any owner to allow a dog to run at large which is known to be vicious or dangerous, or to have bitten any person while passing peaceably along any street or alley in this city. 4. It is unlawful for the owner of a dog to permit it to enter any public school building during session or to be in any place of worship during public service. 5. Every registered dog or bitch must wear a collar with the current dog license attached. 6. It is unlawful to deprive a dog of it's collar or put a registry tag on any dog not registered. 7. All dogs are required to be securely locked up or securely muzzled from 7 p. m. until 7 a. m. the following day. 8. No person who has any contagious or infections disease, or who has been exposed to such, may permit any dog or cat over which he may have control to run at large or leave the premises un less the person has permission from the health officer of the city. 9. No person is permitted to encourage or urge dogs to fight. 10. It is unlawful to harbor any dog which, by barking, howling or yelping disturbing the quiet of any neighborhood or person. He explained that the Utah Water Pollution Board is not the same as the Board of Health, but both are part of the Department of Health.
