Show THE LEHI FREE PRESS, LEHI, UTAH Friday, April 11, 1952 Final Rites Held Former Lehi Woman Featured at For Evan Jones Primary Conference relatives Friends and gathered in final tribute to the life of Evan Jones, retired railroad man, at funeral services in the Third Ward chapel, Mnday, at 1:00 p. m. The prayer at the home was offered by LeRoy Colledge, a brother-in-la- Bishop Harold W. Barnes conducted the services. Prelude and postlude music was played by Mrs. Evelyn Slater. Charles F. Johnson, a former neighbor, now of Salt Lake City, offered the invocation. A vocal solo, "Face to Face," by Mrs. Sylmer Thayne, was accompanied by Mrs. Slater. Bishop Barnes read the biographical sketch and was the first speaker. He was followed by Bishop Frank Griffiths of Midvale, a cousin to Mr. Jones. G. B. Jorgensen rendered a vocal solo, 'Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," accompanied by Mrs. Slater. Bishop William Hadfield was the concluding speaker, and Ray Shelley of American Fork, sang the closing song, "Goin' Home." He was accompanied by Mrs. Thomas E. Mary Humphreys. Sunderland, a neighbor, spoke the benediction. The grave in the Lehi cemetery was dedicated by Bishop George A. Ricks. Relief Society members arranged and carried the beautiful array of flowers. Pallbearers were Alvin Colledge, Lionel Colledge, Jack Brems, Davis Hardman, Glen Peck and Glen Brooks, relatives, neighbors and friends. Interment was under the direction of the A. H. Wing Mortuary. WANLASSES RETURN FROM SOUTH Mr. and Mrs. J. C Wanlass turned home, Friday, April Mrs. Nola Powell Hoover of Alhambra, California, was featured at Primary conference in Salt Lake City, for her impressive flannel board murals, which she demonstrated. Mrs. Hoover has painted background scenes typical of various religious subjects, including "Book of Mormon" stories. Figures which she has made and painted are placed at will across the board to illustrate the stories. As a guest of the First Ward Relief Society, Tuesday, she gave an illustrated story of the "Book of Ether," appropriate to the Theology course this year. Formerly of Lehi, she is the daughter of Mrs. Abe Powell, and is serving in the East Los Angeles Stake. She visited rela tives here during conference week. Loca Daughters Attend State . DUP Convention Phyllis Fox Appointed Apostle Cowley Sponsor in B.Y.U. Speaks to Air Force ROTC Missionary Group Representing the Lehi Camps of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers at State convention, Saturday, were Mrs. Inez Smith, also a Utah County Board member; Udene Wing, May Bone, Martha Ball and Alice tSice. The convention was held at the Hotel Utah, with sessions at 10:00 a. m, 2:00 p. m., and 7:30 p. Provo Phillis Fox of Lehi, has been appointed a Sponsor First Lieutenant in the Brigham Young University Air Force ROTC sponsors corps, according to Captain Charles K. Moran, advisor to the group. Sponsors were selected by a military board of five cadet officers, five senior girls, Mrs. Lillian C. Booth, Counselor for BYU women; and Captain Moraa Each girl was rated objectively and without comparison. The purpose of the sponsors corps is to complement the ROTC unit on campus and to promote patriotism and good citizenship. Sponsors participate in ceremonial exercises, reviews, and retreat parades. They execute marching and precision drills between halves at games, usher at assemblies, athletic events, and at graduation. Members take part in the fall and spring hops as well as the military ball. Twelve colleges and universities in the western states have sponsor corps. Captain Kate B.. Carter was in charge of the convention followed the theme, "Searching for Hidden Treasures of Pioneer History." The master index file, recently perfected, was explained. Luncheon was served at noon on the Roof Garden, and at 4:00 p. m., they attended open house at the pioneer museum, with music The evening and refreshments. sssion featured pioneer humor. The Family of Evan Jones Reldon Barnes, 19, has enlisted in the US Air Force and was scheduled to report for duty at Fort Douglas, Tuesday, March 8. A son of Bishop and Mrs. Harold W. At Los Angeles, they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Giles and family. They also divided their time between the homes of their sons, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wanlass and Mr. and Mrs. Ruel L. Wanlass, at Rodeo, and the Athol Wanlasses at San Pablo. Two great grandsons were added to the family during their stay there. Marion and Ruel are Elder Mathew W. Cowley of the Council of the Twelve Apostles, was the speaker of the evening. The "Kia Ora" LDS missionary club from Provo furnished an interesting program of action songs and dances.
