The privilege of obtaining wood for fuel on certain areas has been given free for individual use by the Forest Service; but according to the officers in charge, there are many areas where there is no dry wood left within a reasonable reach of a road. This indicates that heavy use Is depleting the supply in areas that can be readily reached. If wood is good fuel, and it is economy to drive from ten to sixty miles for a load of wood, the question is asked by Mr. Dunn, "why might it not be good economy to plant a small area of the farm to a woodlot and grow wood for fuel and other uses right at home?" Most every Utah farm has ground available that would grow a crop of trees, that in five to ten years would be supplying the farm home. HOME ECONOMIST GIVES ADVICE ON TREATMENT OF LINOLEUM SURFACE By scrubbing linoleum with water and soap the life of the material is shortened, according to Effie S. Barrows, home economist of the Utah extension service. The water work through the pores to the fabric back and causes It to mat. The Dattern of the inlaid linoleum then begins to spread until a fine line appears between parts of the design. This gradually expands, until part of the design becomes elevated and can easily be picked out. If linoleum is waxed following a scrubbing and drying process, the sur face may be cleaned by merely wiping it. Or by the use of the following formula for cleaning, the linoleum surface will appear as though it were constantly kept up with wax: 1 cup soap chips (less if powders are used.) 1 cup gasoline. 1 quart hot water. 1 quart hot milk. Dissolve soap chips in hot water, aaa not milk then gasoline. When mixed, divide the quantity using part for washing and the second nnrtlnn for rinsing. Do not rinse with water, Mrs. Barrows warns. Leave the lino leum smooth and glossy as if it were waxed. This may be used to advan tage for cleaning any painted surface. Still another method Is found to be Shave an ordinary satisfactory: candle in hot water, wring cloths out in the solution for cleaning the floor; mis process leaves a smooth, waxy surface on the linoleum.
