Show Tuesday, June 4, The Daily Utah Chronicle - Page Six 1991 Greeks have earned restrictions they feel Boycotters won't affect Utah Editor: In response to Brian Pittman and Brian Johnson's guest column ("Give Greeks chance to act with their own rules," May 30), I would first like to say I'm sorry about the debacle. Perhaps it could have been handled in a way that benefitted both sides. As far as your complaint about rent-a-co- p supervision of Greek parties, all I have to say is that you've earned it (or at least some of your predecessors have earned T-sh- irt it for the rest). The Greek system is certainly an opportunity to show support for your community by participating in philanthropic that is and activities, commendable. Unfortunately, being a Greek is also an Aggeler from page six gives me a great sense of satisfaction to know that these humble offices will continue to exist for generations of liberal, unkempt, idealistic college students to come. The Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune have an uptight readership and must please advertisers like ZCMI. And because of its small size, Salt Lake doesn't exactly have a of bounty underground newspapers. So the Chrony's importance as a forum for alternative voices cannot be underestimated. I'm not saying that the Chrony is the only thing standing in between the Salt Lake valley and total fascism, but well, maybe I am saying that. Much of the credit for the Chrony entering its 101st year of opportunity to show that you've mentally never left high school. Driving away drunk from a party when you know previously that you have to leave at a specific time is patently irresponsible. Yet, as you say, "the Greek system consists of legal adults who are able to exercise their own wear anything you want but that would be cutting off your nose to spite your face. A more proactive solution would be to intelligence and judgement in demonstrate this intelligence and responsibility to those who are out to oppress your system, and the relaxing of restrictions will naturally follow. Give it a try it worked with Mom and Dad, clear. Remember, Brian and Brian, they impose these restrictions because the Greek system had these areas." Perhaps you could enlighten me as to what areas you are talking about it's really not academic and community service (not to mention the social) party without restrictions and Chip Bornemeier Senior health education and not take advantage of the and find a opportunities, forgiving institution that lets you editorial freedom is due to the U. administration. Over the years, U. presidents have tolerated some pretty radical things in these pages and refrained from shutting the place down. They have, of course, occasionally called in the staff for some restrained chastisement over pizza. . . The Chrony is in great hands next year, as I'm sure it will be for years to come. For the paper to be a success, however, it must have an interactive relationship with the campus it serves. So I hope students, faculty and staff will continue to take the time to write in. As I finish my last year of school, I know I will. Of course, I say all of this about editorial freedom while maintaining a certain profound have developed skepticism during my years as a I columnist. With all due respect to Pat Buchanan, I think a columnist can read countless newspaper and magazine jowls in the overlapping are going to get all legislature teary-eye- d when liberals fail to and other coat fanatics to boycott Utah to hanger make a statement is going to be about as effective as pissing our watered-dow- n beer into the wind.
