Show Wednesday. February 6. The Daily Utah Chronicle - Page Six t Letters " " Tf Waitress berates students for poor etiquette Editor: have been a waitress for two years (in a Salt Lake City restaurant that I am not at liberty to name). Last Friday night I served a group of Norwegian U. students, six of them guys and one girl, who sat in my section and had the nerve to leave I a 1 am fed up! I percent tip. I have just one question. Why, if you don't like the service at this restaurant, do you and your friends return every other week and pull the same routine of coming into the restaurant in large numbers, ordering expensive menu items, and after you have digested your meal ask in a snotty and arrogant manner, "what about that 45 minute service?" 1 have a newsflash for you. If you would read the menus, which I doubt you have the intellectual capacity or patience to do, then you would see in fair and legible print that you really should inform your server before you order (that's not after you order) that you expect express service. This policy of express service is for patrons who are in a rush to make the symphony, a play, a concert, or a game and need to eat and run. Even these people have enough brains to order something light instead of steak that something like a well-don- e if takes time to make. Even they order a steak, these people tell me they are rushed so I can rush the ticket. Look, if you want to eat our learn some basic courtesy. 1) Inform the server that you are in a hurry to go somewhere. 2)Bring a calculator. In every nice restaurant in Utah people know that 15 percent of the ticket price is the appropriate amount to tip a server. 3) If you have had bad service, ask to speak to the manager. That's what managers are for. I do not mean to offend other U. students who know how to eat in a restaurant. I have done this for two years and I usually don't have too many problems, but you seven, and you know who you are, are ridiculous jerks! We, the wait staff are getting real good at remembering what you look like, and since we sometimes see you on campus, we want you to know, we don't forget.
