Show The Daily Utah Chronicle, Wednesday, January 22, 1986 LETTERS Insurance is inadequate Editor: The student health insurance policy here at the University of Utah is completely inadequate. The Blue Cross Blue Shield plan includes no major medical coverage, and students arc required to pay 20 percent of the miniscule $10,000 of coverage. Torn ligaments and a broken leg in a skiing accident can easily lead to medical expenses of $7,000 or more. The student would be required to pay $1,400 of that cost. Treatment of major head, spinal or internal injuries and serious diseases can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Under the current policy the student, his or her family, andor the taxpayers would be responsible for any expenses above the $10,000 maximum. As students we do not have the financial resources to cover the cost of medical care for a major injury, nor can we afford complete medical coverage from another source. It is imperative that the U. student health insurance include major medical coverage at a reasonable cost. Collectively we have attended more than 10 different universities, all of which offer student health insurance policies with major medical coverage at lower premiums. We urge ASUU to investigate other insurance policies and select a company offering reasonably priced complete medical coverage. When we have holidays such as these it is a time for us to recognize the men, the events and the impart that they have had on us. To me a holiday from school is not just an excuse to go skiing, but a time to pay tribute to those who deserve it. Bus shelter is a hazard Editor: I just want to go on record with this observation. The bus stop shelter being built at the corner of the Annex complex and across from the Special Events Center appears to be a traffic hazard. The solid walls block vision to the driver looking left. I hope a severe accident at this corner does not validate my fear. This is not the fault of the black South Africans, but it is the fault of the very paranoid white ruling Computer Center. The Chronicle incorrectly called it merely the Union Computer Center. I feel that the students' contribution to the center is certainly noteworthy and that the students should be made aware of this use of their student fees. minority. Granted this is hindsight, but if the whites would have, in the early stages of this recent upheavallet the structure of apartheid progressively break down and let blacks into the government structure, then perhaps blacks and whites could have lived in harmony. Erik Cress man Editor Graduate student This letter is in response to the "King Day" editorial published Jan. 20. The editorial contends that there should be a day set aside to recognize Dr. King's accomplishments, and this much I agree. Although one must question the motives of those who wish to have a day off from work, school, etc. The seminars held this same day were truly a celebration of a man's accomplishments, but as I look ahead in the following years I cannot but help wonder if this holiday will end up like the others.
