Richmond's Black and White days show, now with a "Classic" designation by the Holstein Friesian association of America, is all set for the Bicentennial presentation this weekend. This is one of three shows in the United States with the lack Arid White ' classic designation. They are are the Eastern States Classic, the North American Classic and the Richmond Black and White classic. It is also one of the oldest Holstein shows in the United States. "When full consideration is given the splendid tradition of the Richmond show, its contribution for Pioneering the Black and White show concept and the increased sphere of participation it goes without saying that the National Board intended its action to insure the future success of the. show," the national board said. The show opened last night with the traditional Park School student production and today ihe junior department show will feature the judging and classification of cattle starting at 10 a.m. The fitting and showmanship classes will be in the afternoon. Judges for the Jr. Sow are : Leslie S. Ferreirs, a graduate of Cal Poly and now an instructor in Voc-ATech in Dairy at Utah State University and Val S. Warnick, a graduate in Dairy Science at Utah State and now attending the college working on his masters degree. Judge for the Senior Show set for Friday, May 21, is Glen E. Cook from Elkhart, Indiana. Cook is a prominent dairyman and is regarded by the Holstein Breeders as one of the outstanding judges of the breed. Entries for the show are coming in from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Arizona and some from other Western States. It is promised that it will be one of the biggest and best shows. Set for Friday evening at 7 p.m. is the second annual Heritage Sale with over 35 heau oi top quality cattle consigned and set to be sold to the highest bidder. This event is being managed by Mr. M. B. Nichols of St. Charles, 111., and is sponsored by the Utah State Holstein Association. The Two Cattle Shows and Sale will be held in the new George B. Caine Memorial Pavillion. New bleachers, shower rooms and other improvements have been made on the building for this year's show. One of the more exciting events set for the Black and White Days celebration is the Little Buckaroo Rodeo set for Thursday, May 20 with local riders and contestants. On Saturday, May 22, the Big Open Class Horse Show will take place with the Judging of Pleasure and Stock Classes starting at 9 a.m. The Ladies Cloverleaf Races and Judging of draft classes will be held in the aftcnoon. Judges for the horse show are Jack Stoddard of Shelley, Idaho and He Russel of Kamas, Utah. These men are recognized judges and judged the horse show in 1973. Dairy Food Show for girls and Dairy Wives will be held in the Richmond Utah Stake Center at 11 a.m. Nelie Reibeck, chairman and Emma K. Anderson, Cache Country Extension office will supervise the food show. The selection of the Cache Rodeo queens on Saturday, May 22, will hold a grand entry of contestants at 6 p.m . This event is sponsored by the Cache County Farm Bureau. The Shetland pulling matches and team pulling matches will be held at 7:30 p.m. Also featured throughout the event will be eating stands, exhibits, rides and concessions on the grounds. Everyone is invited to attend with something interesting and entertaining for all. It's slated as the biggest cattle show and horse show in the West. |
