"I'm just the neighborhood grandma." she said. All the kids in the neighborhood refer to her by that handle. She is also mother to a grandson, David, whose mother, her daughter, died a few years ago. "I really don't have hobbies," she said, "just family." She has raised four of her own including Betty Ann Bartholomew, deceased; Beverly Gaye Eggbert, Salt Lake. City; Duane, Tremonton; and Judy Smith, Fielding. What's the secret to raising children? "Just love them," she said, "but also discipline in there with that love." She is a traditionalist when it comes to women's role in the world. Women's lib? "I think it's nuts," she said. "Women who do this don't know U. what they're missing." "I grew up in a time when it was fun being a woman. All you need to do to realize women's lib is wrong is to see a home without a mother." Her talents at being a mother recently earned her, the honor of "Mother of the Year" bestowed on her by the Tremonton Women's Civic League of which she is a charter member. "That's the biggest surprise that ever hit me," she said. When informed of the honor, she responded that she "couldn't be Mother of the Year." I didn't graduate from high school orcollege. She was informed that a diploma wasn't necessary. The other partner in the Deakin household is Mr. Ed Deakin. A long time farmer, he now shares the job with his son Duane. Besides farming he "loves to fish," a love which isn't shared by his wife. "I hate it. I don't even like the ones he brings home," Mrs. Deakin admitted. Like a lot of grandma's she loves to cook Sunday dinners for whoever might pop in. "I guess I'm just a down to earth cook when it comes to cooking for my family," she said. She also enjoys creating party foods. Because of her skill, she has had chances to cater parties but has never taken the vocation up. "Just my own" is all she's catered," she said. "I've really had some fun parties." She wouldn't like the pressure of catering someone else's party and "It The early lives of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were the subjects of the lesson presented at a recent Simada Club meeting at the home of Glenna Hales. wouldn't be as fun if you got paid for it." She has given demonstrations on how to give a successful party. In addition to parties, she used to like gardening but, she claimed, "I'm getting too lazy and old." She also loves to do geneology work and needlepoint. She finds time to be active in the Tremonton Fourth Ward where she serves as a visiting Relief Society teacher. She has also served as a counselor in the Relief Society and Mutual and has taught in each of the organizations. "The.biggest job I ever had was being a bishop's wife," she said. "It's too bad every woman doesn't get the opportunity... maybe they would all be more US. Florence's Cream Puffs V Sx" Safeway GUARANTEED TO powar.
