Show Page THE 4, 25, 1976 TIMES, March GARLAND LEADER-TH- E 'Mother Of The Year' Leah Deakin Honored By Civic League They are the proud parents of four children, 23 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Their firstborn, Betty Ann (deceased), graduated from Bear River high school and Seminary and later attended Brigham Young University and was graduated as an R.N. from the University of Utah. She married Dr. H.H. Bartholomew and from this union came two sons and two daughters (Leah is raising the youngest son). Beverly Gaye attended and graduated from Bear River high school and Seminary and later graduated from Brigham Young University. Presently, she is teaching in Salt Lake City. She and her husband, Wendell Egbert, are the parents of two sons and five daughters (one son and one daughter deceased). Bear River high school and Seminary and attended Brigham Young University and Utah State Agricultural College (USU). He married the late Florence Roberts and three daughters and four sons were born to their marriage, has always been active in his church, especially enjoying doing temple work, and is presently serving as a councilman on the Tremonton Utah Stake High Council. He owns and operates a dry farm ( Mr. and Mrs. Deakin are helping to raise the seven children). The Tremonton Women's Civic League has selected Mrs. Ed (Leah Rock) Deakin as their choice for Mother of the Year. Mrs. Deakin will be recognized for this distinction at the first regular club meeting April 1. According to Mrs. Dawn Ficklin, president, the honor is bestowed annually by the local women's club on a Tremonton mother for her accomplishments in the home and community. The selection is made by the Home Life Department of the organization which is chaired by Beverly Gibson. Mrs. Deakin was born in Brigham City, Utah, to Arch and Annie Hansen Rock. As a child she moved with her parents to Howell, Utah where she attended Box Elder high school and Seminary. On October 12, 1929 she married Ed Deakin in Brigham City. This marriage was solemnized the following June in the Logan Temple. During the early years of their marriage they lived in Blue Creek where her husband owned and operated a dry farm. They built their present home in Tremonton in 1940, where they continue to live. Leah sustained and supported her husband as bishop of the First Ward when he was ordained to this office in Airs, Leah Deakin 1947. Judy, their youngest child, attended and graduated from Bear River high school and Seminary. She is married to Terry Smith and has three sons and two daughters. She is active in church and civic affairs and enjoys working as a dental assistant to Dr.' Darrell Smith in Tremonton. Leah has the distinction of being a charter member of the Tremonton Women's Civic League and has continued to work in the club for many years. In 1940 she served on a committee to organize the Tremonton Dance Club which continued to function and give pleasure to many for a number of years. One project which has taken much of Leah's time and efforts and is of special interest to her is the beautification of the Tremonton City cemetery. She and a good friend, La Von Crystal have spent many hours of physical effort as well as giving financial support to this endeavor. In her church assignments, Leah has worked in the auxiliaries of the LDS church as a Primary and Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Girls Program, Counselor in the MIA, counselor in the Relief Society, and as a member of the Relief Society Stake Board. She is currently teaching a geneology class and is a visiting teacher. y i The LEADED J"iIi Miss Kathy Andersen will exchange wedding vows with Mr. Guy Harris April 10 in an evening ceremony at the Garland Stake Center. Bishop Lee Allen of the Garland East Ward will administer the wedding rites. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jule Harris of Tremonton. The couple will be hosted at a wedding breakfast at Chase's harcoal house by the groom's parents. Hoole at I her horned Mrs. Hoole lectured n thV subject, "A Wise Woman Flowergirls will be nieces of the bride and groom, Tiffani Harris, Angela Dawn Lamb, Lisa Dawn Andersen and Amy Lyn Mecham. The groom's best man will be a brother, Stephen Harris. Miss Andersen is a graduate of Bear River high school and LDS Seminary. The groom is also a gra1 duate of Bear River high school and LDS Seminary. The couple will make their new home in Bothwell. A hot lunch was served after which they did hand work. The next meeting will be held April 1 at the home of Mrs. Winona Ballard. Her presentation was filled with humor and included tips on "How to file it and find it", "How to space your time", and "How to get your children to practice what you try to teach". She told the ladies to "Bloom where you are planted", and made it a very pleasant day for those who attended. After the seminar the club members enjoyed dinner at the Delia Fontana restaurant in Salt Lake City. The Garland Civic and Home Arts Club met in the Community Center, March 11, for their monthly meeting. President Charlotte Reed-e- r conducted the meeting and welcomed members and guests. The groom is the son of Mrs. Helen Dewey and the late Mr. Gaylen Dewey of Brigham City. He is a graduate of Box Elder high school, a six year band student, Key Club member for four years, attended Bridg-erlan- d Area Vocational School, and Utah Technical College in Salt Lake City.
