For the men, Mike Garn took a second place in the bareback competition and Craig Garbanati, another Bear, took third place in steer wrestling. Jeff Roche rode to a third place performance in the saddle bronc competition. Ricky Roche added a second place standing in the bull riding and Garbanati came back to take a second p'.ace in the boy's cow cutting. Gary Stark, a consistent performer from last year's team, placed third in the calf roping. The top four finishers in each high school rodeo throughout the state become eligible to compete in the state high school finals in June. In the traditional queen contest, the Ogden Spikers almost swept the show, Connie Delia Lucia was named queen and Robyn Taylor was first attendant Julie Rex of South Rich was second attendant Laurie Udy of Bear River was named Miss Congeniality. hongirls totakeAll-Aroun- d ors at the Bear River high school rodeo. Lance Robinson, a mem ber of the Spite Rodeo Club of Ogden. took honors for the men with first place performances in the calf roping and team roping where he teamed with Paul Freed, another teavitff rs nd Is CISIf Queen Spike r. A Fieldinggirl. Miss VIcki Leavitt, has been chosen to reign over the coming Ltah State University rodeo May 17-as rodeo qu?en. Miss Leavitt is a freshman in physical education and a number of the L'SU rodeo team. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Val Leavitt. Thirteen girls vied for the honor a record turnout at USU. All are members of the rodeo club. Comjtition was conducted May 7 with a luncheon for all contestants. At the luncheon contestants were judged on their appear ance and personality. Later in the day, the contestants displayed their horsemanship abilities at the Cache County Fairgrounds site of the rodeo. During the horsemanship segment the girls were required to run a predetermined pattern and then change horses with another contestant and ride the other contestant's horse in the same pattern. 18 The Teamwise, the Spikerclub walked off with the honors followed by Bear River's team and South Rich. The girl's side of the slate was in the Bear's effort.
