At 9 a.m the scouts started weighing in their sleds thatthey had spent the last few weeks building from scratch. The scouts and sleds were then pulled up the hill by the five snow machines about 34 of a mile to the starting point From here the scout teams were started at 2 12 minute intervals to a point where they were given a map and sealed orders telling them which way to proceed on the 2 12 mile course. When they reached the stations, they were given more instructions and five different skills were performed at different locations where the patrols were given gold nuggets as rewards for points. The skills performed were: starting a fire and boiling water, a first aid exercise, a cooking problem, a rescue problem, and a compass course. These skills were performed with varying degrees of success. The Kodiaks of Troop 140 gathered the most gold nuggets and were awarded first place. The Blue Angels of Troop 128 and the Longhorns of Troop 332 tied for 2nd place. The sleds and boys were all lined up and judged for best sled with the Trogans from Troop 139 receiving a hatchet for winning best sled.
