As you do your in your Every book-case- s year or closets? books wander Engineering Scholarships Offered The United States Smelting Refining and Mining Company is offering to high school graduates again this year, two scholarships to the University of Utah for the study of mining, geological, or metallurgical engineering, according to an announcement today by Mr. O. A. Glaeser, Vice President and General Manager of Western Operations. The scholarships are offered in memory of two former officials of Western Operations of the Company, and have been awarded each year since 1939, except for a period during World War II. The Downey Davidson Muir Scholarship is for study in metal mining or geological engineering, and the Walter is Hazen Eardley Scholarship for study in extractive United engineering. The scholarship is for a course leading to an engineering degree with payments at the rate of $500 per year, totalling $2,000 over the period. The scholarship will commence with the 1957 fall term at the University of Utah. However, the successful applicant has the option of taking the first two years of study at Carbon Junior College. To the extent that circumstances may permit, scholarship recipients' will be offered employment during summer vacations at one of the Company's plants. Persons graduating from high school this spring, or who have completed high school since January 1, 1956, are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
