Counties in all the states are being informed of the type of problems they must combat, ranging from pretendint atomic and fire bombing to the care of refugees and bombed out persons. According to Mayor Kleon Kerr,, Tremonton City will observe the test on June 20, with a yellow alert at 6:10 a.m. The red alert will sound at 6:20 a.m. At 7:15 a simulated power failure will occur, and at 8:30 the operating room and three unoccupied patient rooms at the Valley hospital will be "hit". The city will be called on to meet the test emergencies with local resources and report to the state civil defense authorities the measures employed. As it will be early in the morning when the first alert is sounded, many youngsters and older people will still be in bed. Training that has been given in the schools should be carried out, such as going into the basement, lying on floors in as much a protected areas as possible. The local committee will act as assigned, and the firemen will "battle the fire" that is assumed to be at the hospital. The state wide plans was given to the county civil defense directors on May 28, a county meeting was held June 5th, and local meetings will be held within the week, according to Mayor Kerr. Burial was in the Brigham City cemetery by Rogers Mortuary, and R. A. June Civil Defense Tests Slated for June 20th COME TO THE VALLEY 11. 1953 Number 37 Rodeo Queen and Attendants To Be Chosen Friday, June 19 Deol Funeral services for Charles Edward Hume, 38 of Garland, who was killed Thursday afternoon while at work at the Utah General Depot in Ogden, were conducted Monday afternoon in the Garland ward chapel with Bishop Arthur Michaelis of the Garland First ward in charge. Mr. Hume was a ground craneman, and was struck by a heavy box, which fell from a crane at the depot. He was born Oct. 24. 1915 at Forsyth, Montana, a son of Thomas and Eula Cantrell Hume. He was reared in Montana, and came to live in Garland in J! JmL P He married Olive Andarson Sept. 2, 1944 at Brigham City. The marriage was later solmen-izein the Logan temple. Mr. Hume had been a ward teacher in the Garland First ward for several years. Surviving are his widow two sons and one daughter, Dennis. Alan and Shayla Hume, all of Garland; his mother, Mrs. Eula Morey, Billings, Hont; and the following brothers and sisters, Harry, Jack, and Robert Hume, all of Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Elma Yetter, and Mrs. Jaunita Graw-ley- , Billings; a half brother, Harold Skaffle, also of Billings. For the funeral service Rhodes played the prelude and the postlude, and Lillian Felt sang "In The Garden", as the first song. The invocation was offered by William land; Pvt. Get-to-geth- n , n, m m The above picture shows the happy reunion of nine men from the Bear River Valley who met at the recent annual LDS conference in Frankfurt, Germany. The convention, which was held under the direction of the West German Mission, was attended "by appro imately 300 servicemen from Germany, France. Austria.Turk-ey- , and North Africa. Presided over by President Edwin Cannon of that mission, the conference was conducted by Elder J. C. Lillywhite, mission servicemen's coordinator and Lt. Marvin Green, LDS chaplain in Europe. All LDS Servicemen were authorized to be absent from duty in order to attend the three day affair, held March 20 to 22 this year. They will learn of the county, state and national government and their operation, and be organized into groups to carry out phases of the operation. The two girls are Patricia Eliason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Eliason of Snowville, who is sponsored by the Tremonton Women's Civic League, and Ra Nae Rock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Rock of Tremonton, who is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The East Garland ward held a party for the retiring Bishopric and their partners Friday evening. A splendid program including piano music by Mit-zi- e Hansen, readings by Mrs. Howard Maughan and Eva musical saw playing by Roy Manning, and vocal solos by Burton Huish. A not luck luncheon was served from a beautifully appointed table, presided over by the wives of the new bishopric. Guests were seated at long tables center with spring flowers. Tom Daniger is chairman of the Jaycee committee and is asking that any girl desiring to enter the competition to contact the committee. The minimum age limit for the event will be 16 years old by December 31, 1953. Judging will be held at the Box Elder County Fair Grounds, west of Tremonton. According to Mr. Daniger, there will be three major points of judging: 1 personality, 2 horsemanship, 3 equipment.
