The usual procedure, however, is to follow mechanical thinning immediately with long handled hoes for first hoeing and trimming. 9.75 per cent of the beet acreage of the South Utah district was thinned entirely by machine in 1952 as compared with only 3.71 per cent in 1951. Yes. Farmers Does mechanical thinning cost more? Absolutely not . . . mechanical thinning saves $8 or more per acre for many beet growers. In addition, it gets the beets off to an earlier start to result in better yields. How can a grower get a mechanical thinner?
