SUPERVISORS OF WEST BOX ELDER CO. SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT REPORT PROGRESS The supervisors of the West Box Elder Soil Conservation district claim some very definite progress during 1952 even though technicians for assisting the district were available only since August. There were 37 ranchers with a total of 134,032 acres cooperating wtih the district. Soil surveys were completed on 4826 acres and basic conservation plans are almost complete on five ranches. The following soil conservation practices were completed by with help from Soil Conservation Service technicians assisting the district; 906 acres of contour strip cropping, five irrigation storage ponds, 37 acres of land leveling, five stock water ponds, 250 acres of sagebrush clearing, 14,350 feet of irrigation laterals and ditches, 11 small irrigation structures,, one large irrigation structure, and 800 feet of irrigation pipe line. Surveys and a complete conservation plan was completed with the Fisher Creek Irrigation company for the installation of 17,900 feet of 15 inch concrete pipe line and five large diversion and water measurement structures. The board of supervisors has met regularly every month except for a month or two in the winter and again during the busy Spring season. The board serves without pay. Their travel expenses, paid out of their own pockets, amount to considerable amounts in a year's time in a district as large as this one. The board at present consists of Ray Firth, Lynn, Utah, chairman; Wynn Hansen, Fielding, Utah, treasurer; and Roy Pugs-leRosette, Utah. Ray Kimber, Grouse Creek was active until his term expired on December 19, 1952, and Carl H. Yates served very-- conscientiously as until his death on December 4, 1952.
