This is an opportunity for High School Juniors to receive training in the procedure of government. The girls conduct campaigns and are elected to exact positions as offices in the Utah State government: State, County & City. Each girl is expected to participate, which in turn teaches them knowledge and appreciation. Our local girls are judged by impartial judges (this year, ladies from Parowan). The girls are chosen for their ability in public speaking, personality and poise, knowledge of government, views on current events, and their ideas on improving local, state, and national problems. Girls State will be held at SUU in Cedar City, June 1 0. Those chosen to represent the Beaver Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary are: Jodi Bunker, daughter of Jay & Nedra Bunker; Robyn Evans, daughter of Elmer & Karla Evans; Candalyn Goodwin, daughter of Calvin & Carol Ann Goodwin; Holly Jones, daughter of Kirk & Sharon Jones; and Jennie Smith, daughter of John D. & Susan Smith. Angela Isaacson, daughter of Mark & Janet Nelson, and Suzanne Walker, daughter of Melvin & Becky Walker, were chosen as alternates. (Last year we were able to send all seven girls, we hope for the same this year). Beaver is fortunate to send this number of girls - due to the membership (105) of the local auxiliary. Registration is $175.00 each girl, of which the Auxiliary pays 12. The cap of 97,000 buck deer permits statewide remains in effect this year with regional quotas based on historic use patterns. Big Game Control set a 36,000 statewide cap on general season elk permits this year. Of the 36,000, 16,000 were set aside for "any bull" general season units. Elk hunters must identify whether they will hunt "any bull" or "spike-only- " when they purchase permits. All "yearling units in the state have now become "spike-onlyThis new restriction will save 1 5 percent of the yearling bull crop for additional "mature bull" hunting opportunities in years to come. The price for big game hunting will increase slightly this year. A general season deer permit will cost $25 in addition to the $5 for the big game license. General season elk permits will be $50. Limited entry elk permits were raised to $130. Premium limited entry buck deer permits like Elk Ridge and the Paunsaugunt will go to $128. Big game proclamations and applications will be available by May 5th at all wildlife license vendors and DWR offices. bull-onl- -- ." y, cost-shar- i The Belknap Elementary 5th & 6th grade chorus Presents: -- Ball.
